Hello, Abby!  So glad you like the historical aspect of the 39 CLUES.  It’s about my favorite part of writing them.  We’re all research freaks.  We love digging in to old texts and histories to research the books.  I also like to look up tourist videos, or videos from locals at all the locations — believe it or not, some of them are great opportunities to see what life is like at street level! A lot of the plots come right out the research — for example, the mystery of Hideyoshi’s swords, and Dan’s daring escape by using the techniques of Shaka Zulu.  (The site of the Holts’ threat on Uncle Alistair’s life, Boom Street, came from a GoogleEarth search of the streets of Pretoria!).  For VESPER’S RISING, I got to immerse myself in the court of King Henry VIII, which is an amazing story.  Wait till you see what’s in store for THE DEAD OF NIGHT!  Thanks for writing!

Hello Mr. Lerangis,
My sis, Abby, says that the 39Clues isn't real, is it?

I'm a new-bee to the 39Clues and an E in training.

Hello, Emily!  Glad you’re enjoying the 39 CLUES.  As we always say, it’s never too late to join the hunt!  The 39 CLUES is a series of novels, so it’s fiction.  But it sure does feel real, doesn’t it?

I am going to tell you something TOP SECRET. (Well kinda...)
Me and Gabriel are twins! Do you think it would be a good idea to bake him a cake? (His too favorite things are cakes and fun. I figured out I can't bake fun).

Kevin

Ha!  If we could bake fun, imagine how big kitchens would be.  Yes, I think it’s great idea to bake a cake!

Hey Peter! I think you already know my brother Gabriel! (Paradox Dragon or BaseballClassified9).

He is not on right now and I want to surprise him. I wanna give him a gift.

What am I to do!?

Kevin
Admin Reply:
Hi, Kevin!  Well, to surprise Gabriel so he wouldn’t POSSIBLY know — wait, this is a public forum!  Whoops.  Seriously, I would never think to interfere with the gift-giving habits of brothers.  I’m still baffled about what to give my own brother for the holidays … but don’t tell him that.

Hi Peter, I've got a few questions. Here goes:

1. Which 39 Clues book have you enjoyed writing the most?
2. Who do you like writing about most?
3. Can Evan be trusted? (I think so, but I want your opinion).

Thank You! Your number one fan,

Gabriel (Again). 😀
Admin Reply:
Hi, Gabriel!  Funny, I always like best the most recent book I've written (probably because I still feel so close to it).  So I’d have to come down on the side of THE DEAD OF NIGHT on that one.  I really like writing about all the characters, to be truthful:  Dan and Atticus because they’re funny, Amy because she’s so smart, Jake because of his sharpness, Nellie because she’s just so likable, Alistair because he’s so complex, and the Kabras because … they’re the Kabras.  As for whether I trust Evan, well, since I’m one of the people tasked with breathing life into him, anything I tell you about his trustworthiness would count as revealing privileged information, and you’ve seen what happens when I try to do that!

Can you visit somewhere near Southeastern Wisconsin??? It would be totally awesome! I LOVE your books!
Admin Reply:
Hi, Ethan!  Southeastern Wisconsin — that’s near Milwaukee, right?  I once spent two great summers in Milwaukee.  Well, I will be touring in March and April, just after THE DEAD OF NIGHT is published, but I don’t yet know the locations, so keep an eye on this website and on the Cahill Message Boards, if you’re a member.  As soon as I know, I will post the schedule.  And I hope Wisconsin will be included!  Also, your teacher or librarian can certainly invite me to speak at your school, by clicking on the “Author Visits” link above!   Thanks for your nice words about the books!  I appreciate it.

Hi, Abby/Jane Smith/Vipress/BlueDolphin436!  (Whew!)  I’m not familiar with Longmont, but I love Colorado!  I will be touring this spring when THE DEAD OF NIGHT is published, but I don’t yet know my schedule.  I will announce it on this website and on the Cahill Message Boards when I do know.  I also enjoy being invited to visit schools, and your teacher (or librarian) is welcome to look at my “Author Visits” page for details!  As far as book stores, well, sure, there are many different stores, from the big ones like Barnes & Noble or Books-a-Million, to smaller, independent stores all across the country.  I just wouldn’t know what stores exist in your area, though.  Your school librarian or local public librarian would know.  I’ll bet they could help you.  Thanks for writing, and I’m glad you like the 39 CLUES.

Hey, Peter, who would you like to make the Vespers release (if they do) in Cahills Vs Vespers Book 3 The Dead Of Night?

Your number one fan,

Gabriel (BaseballClassified9 on the 39 clues)
Admin Reply:
Hello again, Gabriel!  Well, the book has been written, so the answer to that question has already been determined.  And given my dismal history of trying to reveal secrets, I’d better just let this one go, alas.  But hang on, it’s an exciting story!

I have a few questions on 39 Clues. I love your books!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Can you tell me about the love in the series?
• If Amy and Evan are together, will Ian ever get over it? Or will Amy break up with Evan in order to go back to Ian? And if that happens, won’t Evan be furious?
• Is Dan going to fall in love with someone? I think Dan might, just might fall in love with a Vesper, an enemy. Because Amy fell in love with Ian, an enemy at the time.

2. I’d like to know about the Rapidfire books.
• If Natalie Kabra is mentioned in the summary, doesn’t she have to leave the Vespers? Does she come back?
• If Natalie comes back, is it only her who comes back, or all hostages? Will they escape or the Vespers let then out?

That's all. Thank you!

- Isabel

P.S.: Why does Rick Riordan not write anymore 39 Clues books?
Admin Reply:
Wow.  Amazing questions, Isabel, and many thanks for the kind words!  As for Rick, I’m afraid he’s just too busy with all his wonderful projects. We feel lucky that we had him on board for THE MAZE OF BONES, for the BLACK BOOK intro, and for the lead story in VESPERS RISING.  And, of course, it’s been great fun appearing with him from time to time across the country, like this great event for the Texas Book Festival awhile back.
As for your other questions, well, try as I might to break my vow of secrecy, it never seems to work.  There’s the problem of agents striking out my words with gold.  But I have an idea.  What if I do this — what if I hide my answer?
[expandable title="So here it is, totally hidden. Click here to unlock the answers and let’s hope it works ..."]This is what happens to the hostages: YOU WILL NEVER GET AWAY WITH THIS, LERANGIS!!  V1. And as for the questions about Amy and Dan’s personal lives, well, it turns out that ABSOLUTELY NOT! THIS IS CLASSIFIED AND YOU KNOW IT, MR. AUTHOR OF BOOK 3!! V1[/expandable]

Hello again, Aman!  Thank you for those kind words.  Unfortunately I have never met Jeff Kinney.  We were at a convention not long ago, but he had a line of hundreds of people, so he was quite busy!  (I was, too, but not quite like that!)  Keep up your reading and writing, and good things will come to you!

Dear Peter Lerangis,

In the end of the medusa plot it said Vesper1 has a burn. Also Gordon Korman said this when he answered our questions," All I can reveal here is that it was the result of a tragic fire.". Amy and Dan's PARENTS DIED in a TRAGIC FIRE!! I think vesper1 killed Amy and Dan's parents!! Can you give me some info or comments on that?

Your top janus operative,
Brooks
Admin Reply:
Ah-ha!  You are a good, attentive reader!  Well, I’m kind of sworn to secrecy about all future plot developments. and every time I try to break away, some Vesper operative comes along and sabotages my Guestbook, so I’ll just have to apologize and say put your seatbelt because the story gets wild and exciting in the next few months!

i now finished book one of Cahills vs vespers, and the mission.i almost read all the 39 clues books, what i don't get is,doesn't Amy like Ian too?like in book 3?and,it's obvious that Ian likes Amy.i don't know,Amy and Evan have a lot in common.and Ian,not much.so i know how much i knew Ian likes Amy,but Amy and Evan do make a good couple(ever since i finished book 1 of Cahills vs vespers)so i have no idea now:)

Hello, Destiny!  Yes, you’re so right about all the confusing emotions.  Amy is torn, isn’t she?  I can understand how you would have no idea at this point, but hang on.  Things really move along in the upcoming books (sometimes in unexpected directions!).

Hello, Lesley!  I have never been to Scotland but have always dreamed of doing so.  Many friends of mine have gone, and all have had such a good time.  I belonged to a singing group in college, and one of our favorite songs is “Loch Lomond.” In fact, just last month we sang it after a hike to the top of a mountain in New Hampshire.  It was glorious.  I hope to visit someday.  Thanks for writing, and I’m delighted you enjoyed THE SWORD THIEF.  Thanks, too, for the link to the wiki page!

Hey Peter could we have hints on who Vesper 4 is? Thank You.

Hey, there, BaseballClassified9! It’s weird, but every time I try to talk about future secrets, some mysterious hacker comes and draws a gold line through anything I try to write, with horrible messages embedded within. I can try, but I don’t guarantee it’ll work. Okay, here goes: Vesper Four is SORRY, WE CANNOT OBLIGE -- V1..

Hullo, Mr. Lerangis! (:

I've always wondered about the CliqueMe profiles on the Cahill Web. Who writes them? And will they be updated?

Also, how are the models and actors who pose as the 39 Clues characters casted? Are the people who posed as Ian, Dan, and Amy for series one still there, or are there new people? They look different.

Sorry for asking so many questions! I'm just a huge 39 Clues fan. Oh, that reminds me, have you ever read 39 Clues FanFictions? I write some myself. Just thought you should know that your book, The Sword Thief, has definitely been a major plot-sparker! (You know, with the whole Amy/Ian thing? Majorly popular among fans, though I personally like Evan with Amy better.)

Thank you so much!
Admin Reply:
Hi, J.H.!  Good questions!  I have to admit, as a 39 CLUES author, I know plenty about the characters and the plots in the books themselves, but not quite so much about the mechanics of Cahill Web, etc.  Not sure about those CliqueMe profiles.  All I can say for sure is that I have it on good authority that the characters are indeed posting to the Cahill Message Boards pretty frequently.  As for the images, we’re lucky that just about all of the characters are the same as they were in the first series.  Dan and Amy are two years older so that may be why they look different.  I am thrilled beyond belief that the SWORD THIEF has sparked plots, and I’m amazed at how important the Ian-Amy subplot has loomed in that world.  I confess I’ve been so consumed with writing deadlines, visits, etc., that I haven’t had to time to look at much fanfiction, but what I have seen is inventive, funny, and well thought out.
