HELP! im being chased by a vesper! i was just getting the mail when i saw this mmysterious guy hiding behind the mail truck, isaw that he looked so much like casper wyoming, so i grabbed my mail and ran! as soon as i got half way up the street, he started chasing me, luckily i was wearing my shoes [for once] and im a tomas, so i beat the dude to my house and locked all the doors and windows, luckily, its just me and my older lucian ekat brother [hell know what to do, right!], becuase my parents said i had to stop casing vespers on my missions for the janus and wayward tomas leadership [hey, im all quarter branchas except 4 mardrigal], so they wouldnt understand, and theyd make me stop my missions altogether, ANd howd alistair like that? im supposed to be in cairo next week! hed kick my out of the E. E. A. S. [elite ekaterina agent squad. hey, the name waasnt my idea, it was that victor wood dude that bae likes so much] and i couldnt risk thatt, i already on bad terms with the kabra kids, man those dudes are tough! and it didnt help when ian saw i wasnt exacly feeling pity for his apparent feline problem :] any way pleaase help mee!!! i already called mr kleisteer to see if he could spare a guard, but we dont have good history together, lets just say i was pretty mad when he called ham a pathetic quitter, and when im mad im as stubborn as eisenhower and nearly as dangerous, as kleister soon he would know :] yours, susie

Hello, Arushi!  Thanks for you kind words.  As for the book, well, you have to understand that if I give anything away, that would spoil the surprises in the book.  All I can say is that it’s full of action and travel to exotic places, and plenty of unexpected plot twists!  And Dan makes some really bad jokes.
susie barber wrote on October 18, 2011 at 8:58 PM
hey again, mr lerangis, hows your new book coming along? i know you cant give out any big info on it, but i heard that amy and dan got one of the prisoners back from the vespers. is that true? i wonder who? yours, susie

Hi, Susie!  Vesper 1 has an eye on me.  If I reveal any info on Book 3, besides what's on the cover, I am toast.  Sorry!

How do you make a Cahill Command Message Board post URGENT?
Admin Reply:
Hm, I don’t believe there’s any way to mark posts that way. Guess the urgency will have to be in the words themselves!

Hello Mr. Lerangis! 😀

Don't tell anyone but - out of all the 39 Clues authors, you are my fav! 🙂

Now, to my questions!

I know you can't answer any Amy/Ian questions (I'm sure you're totally getting tired of hearing, too), but I must say, I'M DYING OF EXCITEMENT! Anyway, as I was saying, you can't give us any big news or anything, so I won't waste your time with that problem. My actual question after all this rigmarole is: when did you first start writing The Dead of Night? And when did you start making your concepts for the book?

Also, any suggestions for a writer with writer's block? ;D

Thanks so much! 🙂

Hi, Gabby!
Don’t worry, I won’t tell a soul — your secret is safe.  And thanks!
I started on THE DEAD OF NIGHT in January 2011, had an approved outline by the end of February, a first draft in April, and a final draft in August.
As for writer’s block, well, I once did a video for Simon & Schuster that touches on that a bit, but I would add a few other things for you: Make sure to write about something that really excites you, because if it does, that excitement will run off on your readers. If you’re a perfectionist, understand that you have to do the best you can and move on. You can always go back later and fix things (and you will).  Slumps happen. I get them all the time. It often helps to escape into someone else’s creative work (a movie, another book), which will sometimes loosen up the logjam in your brain and inspire you.  A lot of people also use meditation, or listen to music silently, eyes closed, before starting.  But in the end, it all boils down to brute force.  At some point you just have to sit there and not get up until you write something.  Eventually the words will start to flow.

Hello, Arushi! Many thanks for writing, and I’m happy to be clear. The 100% total, complete, sum of all information I can reveal is that Amy and Ian SORRY, CLASSIFIED!, and as far as Evan is concerned, NO WAY! THIS CANNOT BE REVEALED UNTIL MARCH!. Oops, I may have already revealed too much. I have to be very careful. I promised not to say a word, and the higher powers have threatened to censor any attempt to disobey. Oh, well, I don’t believe they really will...

Hey there Peter
I'd just like to know if there's a third book in the X-Isle series?
It's very interesting and I'd like ti find out if what happens
Thanks
Parker

Hello, Parker! Thanks for writing about X ISLE. Alas, it was a two-book story only. I hope you enjoyed it!

Hi Peter,
I am LOVING your Spy X series! I can't put them down. The problem is I cannot find the next book in the series which is book 3. Is there anything you can do to help me. I am so excited to see what happens to Evie and Andrew's mom.
Admin Reply:
Hello, Willow! I'm so glad you're enjoying the series! Yes, we do need to get you Book 3! It's out of print, which is why it's so hard to get, but there are plenty of vendors who will sell copies, both new and used. Your best bet is to explore the links to the right on the SPY X page on my website through this link. Hope this helps -- and do let me know how you like it!

Hi Peter!

Okay, I understand that we must wait to find out for sure but is there anything you can say about Ian, Amy or Evan that could give us Amian (Amy+Ian) fans a bit of hope? From what I've been seeing and hearing is that Ian "USED TO" like Amy. Is that true? USED TO suggests that he no longer likes her... Is it possible to give us a little hope without giving it away?

Thanks 🙂

Hey Mr. Lerangis! I first heard of you in 39 clues and once I searched for your name in my iBooks and the only books that came up where the drama club ones. I also heard of you in Smiler's Bones, which was in my teacher's classroom. All I can say is that u are a great author. Your books are nicely detailed and I love how you put humanity value in all your characters (as a writer it is essential for me to notice these things.) Like Nat and Ian for example. I thought them bratty and cold at first, but then I've grown to really like them when I saw their amiable and insecurities.
I also like how you broaden your literature. Drama, Comedy, Thrillers, what can't u write about! But I have one lingering question.
Why do you think it's important for a character to be relatable? If there isn't relative, then do you think it breaks what might otherwise be a really great story?
Thanks for writing about every aspect of life and connecting with ur audience.
Admin Reply:
Hello, Cyan -- Thank you so much for your kind words. I deeply appreciate them, and I'm so grateful to be recognized for something I try hard to achieve!
I do think it's crucial for characters to be relatable. In fact, I believe the word "relatable" is interchangeable with "human." If the characters are purely evil, or purely comic, then they become cartoonish. They do exactly what's expected of them, whicih can be comforting but predictable. It's much more interesting to make them believable, with foibles and insecurities and an innate sense of right and wrong. Then, oddly enough, the acts of evil are more, not less, devastating, because you know that the character has the capability to do the right thing but has actually made a conscious choice not to.
Hope that's clear. Again, thanks for writing!

Hi!
I really love your books! I can't wait 'til March! I know that you've already responded to Ian/Amy/Evan questions, but this one is slightly different. Will Evan, Dan, Hamilton, Sinead, etc., ever learn that Ian and Amy "kinda" kissed in South Korea, before he and NAtalie left her, Dan and Alistair for dead? I'm thinking it would cause a lot of drama and I am a dramatic person.
Thanks!
Maddie

Why indeed? Anyone needing that answer -- or trying to figure out what the heck the question means -- needs to read THE SWORD THIEF!
