Mr. Lerangis i like to read ,but i am not a good writer i have a written a few short stories here and there. i have the question how do authors come with charcter names? Mr. Lerangis my i show you one story on which i worked on a while?
Admin Reply:
Hello again, Ansh!  Character names are fun.  Sometimes they just pop into my head.  Sometimes I use names of people I know.  Often the name will just match a character somehow.  For example, the word Vesper means evening, so it’s a fine name for a dark, shady group.  Sometimes I can’t think of a name right away, so I don’t!  I call a character something like “Boy 1” and I start writing the story.  I think of the name later, and then I go back and fill it in!  Don’t worry about being a good writer or not, if you keep trying, you will just get better and better.  Try to get your teachers to read your stories and help you out.  And never stop trying.  You will surprise yourself!
Unfortunately, because of my work load, I can’t read and give advice on stories, so my apologies.  But don’t worry, it’s not just you; I even say this to my closest friends!

Few Questions
1. Is it possible to get Vesper when you're doing the test to see your family Branch?
2. Was Ian's part in Crushed with Isabel Real, or just an illusion or his imagination?
Admin Reply:
Hello, Catching Aqua 1!  Well, the answer to 1, I’m pretty sure, is no.  As for 2, I will have to report back to you after I read CRUSHED.  I’m not there yet because of a huge work load this winter!

Are you guys and gals talking about making movies about the books and are the books going to be in stores or is it going to be on e reader.

Ryan
Admin Reply:
Hello, Ryan!  Dreamworks has the rights to make a 39 CLUES movie, so we’re all eagerly waiting to hear from them.  And all the books are in stores, except for the RapidFire stories, which are only eBooks.

Hello, Markos!  Hmm, that’s a good question.  If I were you, I’d try contacting Scholastic directly via their 39 CLUES [pl-popup content="http://www.the39clues.com/info/contact" title="" width="1000" height="640"]help page[/pl-popup].

Hey, Mr. Lerangis! I LOVE the 39 Clues, and I won't ask any "spoiler" questions, because not knowing what's coming is part of the fun! I would like to ask THIS question, though: I have read your Spy X books and love them as well, but after book #2, well, are there any more books after book #2?! If so, where can I find them? If not, well, come on!!! 🙂 It's not like you're busy or anything, right? Thanks so much. Keep up the good work!! Meg
Admin Reply:
Hi, Meg!  Thanks for the nice note, and so glad you like the SPY X books, and yes, there are two more books in the series!  Unfortunately they’re out of print, but you can get them from used booksellers.  The best way to find them is through the links on this page.

Ok then I won't ask about Amy/Evan/Ian things, what about what the next book is based on? Like every book has to do with history and famous people in the past. Is this one goona be about Newton or Galileo? Bc it showed like a microscope and stars, in other words atronomy.
Admin Reply:
Hello, Purple Star!  Whoops, read that message above a little closer.  It’s not about Ian and Amy and Evan, it’s about all spoilers (including Ian, etc.).  So apologies, but my lips are sealed for now!
Hannah wrote on January 27, 2012 at 1:44 AM
3 questions:

1. How can Amy and Ian date? Isn't illegal or something for relatives to date?

2. Is there really going to be a 39 clues movie?

3. When is the third book in Vespers vs. Cahills going to come out?

Thanx ~ Hannah
Admin Reply:
Hello, Hannah!  OK, here goes:

I answered this question in depth on an earlier post, somewhere around page 36 of this guestbook.  But technically, Amy and Ian are about as related as any two random people on the street.  You see, with each generation, the degree of relation decreases exponentially.  You’re related to each parent by ½, each grandparent by ¼, each great-grandparent by one-sixteenth.  Amy and Ian go back to a common ancestor about 21 generations ago.  This makes them mathematically related by about one-two-millionth.  For various statistical reasons this isn’t totally accurate, but the blood relation is pretty much negligible.  All of us are related roughly that much!
I hope so!  Dreamworks has the rights, so the next step is theirs.
March 6!  (And I can’t wait!)

Admin Reply:
Hi, Timothy!  A Madrigal in your midst?  Hmm, maybe you should ask for proof.
Elizabeth Liringis wrote on January 22, 2012 at 7:05 PM
Are we related by any chance???? Sometimes last name spellings were changed at Ellis Island. My dad's (George)father had 10 siblings from Kalamata, Greece, I think. The Greek / American spelling is LYRYNZIS.
My Papou was Ernest Liringis, one of his brothers was Tom and we are from St. Louis, MO.
I'm a retired 6th grade teacher who taught Writing for 31 yrs. While cleaning out boxes in my downstairs I just ran across one of your books, "Greetings from Spring Break" and thought I'd give you a quick note.
Hope to hear from you.
A question for you..PATRIOTS OR GIANTS??
Admin Reply:
Hello, Patrioti!  It’s entirely possible we’re related, although I know the last name isn’t as rare as we may think.  I’ve seen many variations of spelling − Liratzis, Leratzis, Lirantzis.  My son and I once got into a taxi driven by someone named Lerantzis!  I haven’t seen Liringis before, but judging from your occupation and the vibrant personality that comes across in your writing, I’d say we must be related!  I know my grandfather’s family came from the villages around Sparta, and there are still some Lirantzises there.  I also know some of them migrated to New York City, Australia, and Toronto (and possibly Michigan).  My grandfather’s last name appeared as LIRANTZIS on the ship manifest at Ellis Island, so I believe he changed the spelling himself.  I don’t know this for a fact, because he died before I was born.  Kalamata is not terribly far from Sparta, so who knows?
But one of the great qualities of Greeks is that everyone is a “cousin.”  So, cousin, thanks for writing, and for devoting your life’s work to the best possible cause.  It was my sixth-grade writing teacher who first told me I could be a professional writer someday.  I never forgot that.
(And I’m a born-and-bred New Yorker and a Jets fan, but at times like this I necessarily default to Giants!)

Hi! I'm a big fan of you 39 Clues books, and can't wait for the dead of night. I have a question about the first 39 clues series. In The Sword Thief it says that the secret the 39 clues make is the philosopher's stone. But then in the rest of the series, it never mentions this again, and in book 8, the secret formula really makes the master serum! I don't understand. Was it changed by the authors? Why?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Oren.  It was a “red herring” — a false lead.  That is, they thought they’d found the answer to the riddle, but they were misled.  It wasn't alkahest at all, it was a different arrangement of letters that led them to Egypt!  (And it also wasn’t what the Kabras thought it was.)
Lesley Meek wrote on January 22, 2012 at 2:58 PM
Will Rapid Fire be made into the UK too?? Because I got all excited about it and then it was not coming to the UK!!!!! I have been finding out some stuff via The 39 clues wiki.
Admin Reply:
Hi, Lesley!  The answer is, I don't know!  Can you not order it through Amazon?  Hmm.  Maybe you ought to contact Scholastic directly, perhaps through the Cahill Message Board moderator.

Hello. I am a HUGE fan the 39 clues. I am starting to read other series written by you and the other authors. I am currently reading The Missing Series by Margaret Peterson Haddix. I read the first book in a week and a half. And I am almost half way through the second and I only got it yesterday. I also read Uprising by her over the summer as homework for advanced classes. Anyway, in the missions for Cahills vs. Vespers the people look so different than they did in The 39 clues. Especially Ian. They also look different on the Rapid Fire books. Me and my friend Brianna have been fans of the 39 clues since we were in the 5th grade. We are still fans going into highschool. When we read the books we learned some of the word pronunciations wrong including Saladin and Madrigal. I now find it kind of hard pronounce them the right way. Oh well. I wish I could meet you and the other authors. Gordon Korman is coming to my school next year, but I won't be able to see him, because I will be in highschool and he is going to the middle school. Well I LOVE the 39 clues. Thanks for writting them! (That was for all the authors)
Admin Reply:
And thank you for writing me, Hannah!  Too bad you won’t see Gordon.  He gives an amazing presentation!

Hey its me again from last year (the NZ'er with the prussian idea)

When The Dead of Night has finally been released, people have read it, and the spotlight is thrust upon Roland Smith, are you going to miss getting all this extra attention, or do you prefer the quieter stuff?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Chris!  No, I’m eager for Roland to experience this.  He’s a great guy and an awesome author.  And my life will be far from quiet, trust me!  (But thanks for your concern.)

Hello, Aman.  Good to hear from you.  Very glad you liked THE MEDUSA PLOT.  It’s OK if you don’t have time to write, because I assume that means you’re working very hard in school, which is the best thing!

Hi. After reading the King's Randsom and the Rapid Fire series, a lot of readers have a lot of questions like who is Vesper One, is there a Cahill mole and is Arthur Trent alive. Will any of the big questions be answered in the Dead of Night?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Caitlyn!  I know how excited people are to know these things, but as I noted at the top of this page, I’m not able to say.  Apologies.  But don’t worry.  I think it’ll be worth the wait.

Funny you should ask.  I wrote an op-ed piece on the subject, which is scheduled to be published on Sunday, January 22, in the New York Daily News.

Well here's my first chapter,
Chapter 1
Scratch! Schratch!
"Deary! Could you let Silverstream back in please?"
"Yes, Mom!" cried Jane as she let the cat back in the house. She watched as she bounded up the stares to Jane's bedroom.
"Mom? Can I go to Ben's house to do homework?" Jane went to Ben's house every time an esay was given back at school. And at 7th grade, easays were hard.
"Yes, but first you have to sweep the kitchen floor." Jane grabed her helmet anyway. But then she her mom staring right at her,
"I said to sweep the floor." she said sternly.

Sup! 😀 And I have a question that has nothing to do with The Dead of Night at all.
What did happened to Kurt after The Vipers Nest?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Eli.  Kurt is enjoying a quiet life in South Africa and, along wiith many other characters, he dearly hopes to be included in any forthcoming 39 CLUES movie.
