Can you give me an example or idea of how to start my book on codes? (It's due Jan. 31) I've had no break through till Jan. 2 and we also had half of Nov. and all of Dec. to work on it! Maybe the New Year is lucky!

Well, I can’t do your assignment for you or my sons would torment me, because I naver did their homework for them!  But I can say that one possibility would be to start with a coded introduction.  Then challenge the reader to figure out what you just said and begin your discussion of codes.

Hey, Peter!

What is your favorite character from The 39 Clues and what is your favorite part of The Sword Thief? That is one of my favorite books from the first series, so I was just wondering(: Happy New Year!

I really enjoyed writing the opening scene at the airport, the scene where they arrive at Uncle Alistair’s house, the chase in the subway, the cave scene, the scene with Buffy, and the epilogue.  I also loved writing the words “homing poodles.”   I had a lot of fun with that book.  And my favorite character is always the one I happen to be writing.  I’m fickle that way.

Yes, our school is letting us publish bks through schoolastics.
To Mr. Peter:
Can u spred the word?
Admin Reply:
Hello again, Abby.  Will do.  I am posting this in order to communicate your message!

Replying to last message...
Yes, and the codes that u put in ur bks(but only if u want to). And could u ask the Gestbook readers to share there codes to? (only if they want to) And I'm writing a book 4 school about codes and it's dedicated to u!
Admin Reply:
Hi, Abby!  I’m afraid I’m not able to reveal my book codes because it will spoil the surprise for people who have not read my books yet.  And only Emerald Cobra can reveal his or her codes.  So let’s hope.  Thank you for dedicating your book to me.  I am honored!

In the 39 clues mission 7, there was a "Magic Sum" game. It was on a tombstone, and the names on it were quite interesting. I'll write them down.

H.E Wilfries B. Fore. E. Fines Thomas Kloo

Now before I noticed anything, I found them quite suspicious. Then I tried to make them into a sentence:

H.E Wilfries : He will rise
B. Fore .E. Fines : Before he finds
Thomas Kloo : Tomas' Clue

The sentence: He will rise before he finds Tomas' clue.

My dad was beside me when I deciphered it, and when I told him it had nothing to do with the mission, he was impressed that I had a sharp eye.
I tried to search it up on google (That's how I knew it had nothing to do with the mission)
So I thought "Maybe it's a clue hidden in a clue,"
But no matter how much times I try and think about it, or search it up, I still don't know WHO will rise before he finds Tomas' clue.

Do you have any ideas?

-Sincerely,
Madellin
Admin Reply:
Hello, Madellin.  That is impressive indeed!  My best advice, though, is to take another look at that first line — (1) Read it very carefully, as you may be missing something, and (b) consider another pronunciation of the sound “ie.”

As to the code that Emerald Cobra just recently received from Vesper One (CFBUI JT XBJUJOH.), does the solution happen to be "Beath is Waiting."? The best I can get from that is "Death is Waiting." Am I correct?

And a question for Mr. Lerangis... (I'm not sure if you've already been asked this): When Rick Riordan first came up with the idea for the 39 Clues series, what made you accept to take part in this particular series?
Admin Reply:
Yes, that is correct.  It looks like Emerald Cobra meant to write an “E” for that first letter instead of a “C.”  That’s why it’s extremely important to check and double-check codes before you let them out!  As for your question, the publisher (Scholastic) brought Gordon, Jude, and me into a special, secret meeting in their offices and showed us the idea for the series, complete with a fancy Powerpoint display and pastries.  It was the pastries that did it!  No, seriously, after we all listened to the idea, how could we not be super-excited about it?  We signed on right away, all three of us!

peter! thank you so much for the idea I'll think about wrighting to Tikatok. what is your favourite part about wrighting books?
Admin Reply:
You’re welcome, Annabel!  Funny, someone else asked this question a few days ago.  I’ll write what I wrote then: My favorite part is when a book in fully in motion, the characters are alive in my head, and it feels like they’re telling me what to write. Then I lose a sense of time completely, as if I’ve traveled to a different world. I find that exhilarating.
annabel wrote on January 5, 2012 at 5:03 AM
hey I'm trying to write a book and I was wondering if you know anyone who can publish it for me or something like that oh ya and I'm in grade six and should I and my friends in the story or would that be a bad Idea?
Admin Reply:
That is fantastic!  My best advice is not to worry about publishing just yet.  Have you thought of submitting to the Tikatok contest, or any of the other outlets for young writers?

Oops! Sorry! Hubert Van Eyck didn't die trying to save his family from a volcano, Pliny Elder did. Jan Van Eyck was "well versed in classics, particularly Pliny the Elder's work.

Still on the case,

P.S. Vesper One gave me a text message! It's a code:

Peter! I just did some research and I found out something huge! I got a card from the rapid fire code and It contained a file about vespers. There was a list of known vespers and there was note on a letter from Madagascar Aviation Society. Then I did some research and BOOM! A explosive moment hung.

First the Adoration of the Lamb part? I went on Wikipedia and found out that it was actually a panel painting called the Ghent Alterpiece. It was done by Hubert Van Eyck (that's connected to the note about the Van Eyck connection) and Jan Va Eyck. Hubert started the panel painting but died in 1426 when trying to save his family from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. So his younger brother Jan finished the painting for him and completed it in 1432.

Also, on the Known Vespers sheet there was Casper Wyoming, General George Patton, and Mademoiselle Hubert with "(alias?)" next to it. Coincidence that there was also a Hubert Van Eyck?

The Si Ti A Pam part at the bottom was a anagram for Is it a map? A map? For.......the Adoration?

Lastly, the "Monuments Men-Nazi connection?" came to a solution:
The Monuments Men was a group established in world war two, and at the end of the war MANY WORKS OF ART AND OTHER ITEMS OF CULTURAL IMPORTANCE-the adoration of the lamb?-WERE STOLEN BY THE NAZIS OR HIDDEN FOR SAFEKEEPING.

Peter? Do you I hit something big? Or......another coincidence? The vespers are rising,
-Emerald Cobra

Okay, after delivering a very confusing question, this is the more specific question that I hope you can answer (a.k.a. it isn't a spoiler). Is there any significance to the last name of Amy and Dan's family being "Cahill"? According to you, the name "Vesper" did have some significance, but what about "Cahill"? I apologize for the confusing question. And since some people are posting up codes, here is my own.

Nls Esprsvp fvp bvfxhmh fixcsv. Eb wbpb lvvbnrv pxabsss xhnl gmbwor ho nlr bhskf.

If you need the keyword, it is VESPER.
Admin Reply:
OK, Guestbook readers, let’s see who can solve this one!  And while we’re at it, any theories about the name Cahill?

Hi Peter! Today is January 4th! Oh, yeah. I have a question for you:

-I did all the missions except for Mission 10 End Game, but for some reason I didn't get any mission medals; my mission percentage thing was full, but the medal part is empty. Do you know why?

Darn it! Oh well, can u give me all the codes u know so I can practise in my code club. (Ur a BIG hero in my club BTW) And I can't wait to see the scedule 4 the author visits.

P.S.
Why do we have to do the RECAPTCHA?
Admin Reply:
Thank you!  Do you mean the codes sent by the person here on the Guestbook?  Good idea, so let’s hope that person reads this and shares the codes!
Unfortunately Recaptcha is necessary because of bot-generated spam.  Believe it or not, this Guestbook is spammed every few minutes, but the bots cannot read Recaptcha.  Only humans can.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but it’s the only way to keep the Guestbook safe for real messages!

Hi again, Mr. Lerangis.

Oh, well. My motto is "Don't ever judge a book by its cover"(or by its number of pages). Actually, my motto is Hakuna Matata, but lets just pretend. And I'm sure it will be good! Less pages, don't really matter!
I have another question, though: Do you know if there will be a third 39 clues series?
And a note: BRAZIL LOVES YOU!!!

Sincerelly,
AquaBubbly23
Admin Reply:
Too early to know about a third series.  And I love Brazil back!
Niki wrote on January 3, 2012 at 9:20 PM
Hi! If there is a series three do you think Scholastic would be willing to have me write a book? I know its unlikely. Does a person have to be a certain age to write for Scholastic? Do they publish free lance writers?
Admin Reply:
Hello, Niki!  I am delighted to see how eager and ambitious you are — those are two qualities absolutely necessary for success in anything in life.  All of us who write for the 39 Clues are free-lance writers.  Writing for a series like the 39 Clues requires authors who have already written best-selling books and created series of their own.  But before doing that, every one of us started out as a young writer with eagerness and great ambition, just like you.  I am assuming you’re a student, so I would recommend that you finish your education and keep up your writing.  Someday you will publish your own book, and maybe YOUR own series.  (Who knows, maybe the 39 Clues adventures will still be continuing then!)
A random Janus.............. wrote on January 3, 2012 at 8:57 PM
Hey Peter!
Say, I had an idea for the website. See, the children of Jane have NO IDEA who is the leader on the webernet. (Man, I love that word) So...I was thinking....Admin Noah S. (Or someone who controls the web site) Should create a page, On that page there would be a place to sign up and a place to vote. Each branch would get three leaders. People would vote, say, every 3-4 months. Whoever controls the voting (Hey, could it be me?) would look at the percents (Like on the polls) And if too many people have the top percent there would be another round and so on. So where can I get in contact with Noah S?

A random Janus......
