Hey Peter,
I have 2 questions for you
1. On Wikipedia it says that CVV book 5 is called The Golden Secret and that CVV book 6 is called The Shining Light. Are these titles right ?
2. It also says on wikipedia that The Cahill Files 2 is called The Guardians and that it is going to be written by Margaret Peterson Haddix. Is this also true ? I also remember seeing you on your tour. Nicolas
Admin Reply:
Hi, Nicolas!  It was great to meet you at Books of Wonder!  Here are your answers:

No, these are fake.  Here are the rules of thumb for 39 Clues titles:
They are NEVER decided before a book is written.  The book comes first, the title last.  Anyone who says they know titles in advance simply can’t know — because WE haven’t even created them yet!
If the titles sound too lame to be true (like the fake Wikipedia titles), that means they are.
The FIRST people (besides the publiisher and author) to find out the titles are ALWAYS the booksellers — independent stores, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.  Along with the Scholastic websites, those are the only reliable sources.  Wikipedia is not reliable.  Anybody can post anything they want.  And they do!

Same answer.  Not only is the title fake, but the publication date is wrong, and Margaret is not writing it.  Again, check Scholastic and booksellers for real information!

Hope this helps!  (And feel free to spread the word.)

Hi, Peter! I just finished commenting about The Dead of Night on the 39 clues Message Board. I just have a question. I found on a site, it says the following info:

Book 5
Title: Behind Closed Doors
Dan will be kidnapped

Is this true? Also, Peter, could you make a stop in Yonkers, NY for the release of Shatterproof? Yonkers is the third largest city in NY, so...yeah. Thanks, Peter!
Admin Reply:
Hello, Anish!  No, that titles is fake.  Someone loves to make up fake titles and post them to Wikipedia, and then people spread the word.  The truth?  We never make up titles in advance.  Most of the time, the title is the LAST thing decided — after the book has been written.  As for a school visit, I am happy to visit schools, but here’s the way it works: I must be invited by a teacher, librarian, PTA person, etc.  The easiest way to set up a visit is through the Author Visits link above.

Hi Peter!!!

I was wondering if you'd have any writing tips or advice for me? I've started writing my own stories and I'm hoping to one day make them books. I also wanted to say, in my opinion, you're the greatest author ever and I hope to be like you one day. So can I get some tips from my favorite author???

Sincerely,
Alexa Wilkinson 🙂
Admin Reply:
Thank you, Alexa!  My advice boils down to four things:

Read, read, read.  Read all the time.  Read everything you can get your hands on.
Try to figure out what your favorite authors do to make their stories stand out.  What sorts of words to they use?  What words do they NOT use?  What do they leave out of a story in order to create tension?
It’s okay to write what you know, but it’s better to write what you love to write about.  Figure out a story that excites you.  Chances are you will tell it in such a way that it will excite readers too.
Practice.  The only way you can get to be a writer is to write.  A lot.  Sit your self down and don’t get up until you’ve made some progress.  Do a little every day.  There are no writers — zero — who became successful without spending lots of time developing ideas and characters, practicing and failing.  It’s the only way you can succeed.

Did they get together at the end?

Hi, Peter! I haven't been on the Guestbook for.....well let's say a long time, but......O.K. Whatever. Now here is my question: For the 39 clues CVV book 3 mission (the dead of night) It doesn't work. It's weird. The other missions work, but not this one. Can you hep?

Hello, E.C. No, I can’t be of much help since I don’t create the missions, but you should write Scholastic with your question here.

I've read all the books up except for 'The Dead of the Night' and waiting is KILLING ME. Anyway, I go by a couple of cover names on the message board (please don't show this little confession, please! *Never cared much about Grammar*) but I'm the one who asked, ahem, I mean, requested that it should be amian!!!! Not amevan!!! I don't like him, for some reason. Even Jake is fine, it's just Evan who is unbearable...I dunno. Anyways, I'm completely mad about the 39 Clues, a Lucian, an anime freak, and one of those people who wishes book tours (they ARE called that, right?) would drop by from time to time. *hint* JUST to be helpfu, my corner of the world is Jeddah

By the way, I do not expect my ques-I mean, request to be even considered, it was just an idea! :D. I really, really like your books and I hope that someday I can become an author. (Even if I deeply dislike Grammar)

Sincerely,
One of your fans
Admin Reply:
Hello, Fatima.  I hope that someday I can visit Jedda.  And although you may hate grammar, you seem pretty good at it!  Thank you for your kind words and I hope to see your name in print someday.

Hi Mr.Lerangis,
When Nellie showed the lizard in the picture I think they are in Mexico. Also, do you reeived a copy of all the 39 Clues books, or just the ones that you write?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Ariel!  I do receive copies of all the books and I’m always happy to get them!

Have you ever heard of The 39 Clues roleplay in tumblr?

Hi
I am reading 39 clues, I am doing a book chat and book jacket about it. I really enjoy this series of books. I am in the 5th grade at Orrville Middle School in Ohio. The book I am reading now is The Sword Thief. Keep writing great books!!
Max
Admin Reply:
Thanks, Max!  Very happy to know this.  Best of luck with the book chat and jacket!
Reneilda wrote on March 11, 2012 at 5:58 AM
I'm referring to the people who are appearing in the cards. (e.g. Dan Cahill : http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/15600000/Dan-Cahill-the-39-clues-15647009-800-440.jpg I mean, is Dan Cahill his real name?)
Aaaand, do you know how could I contact Ms. Linda Sue Park and Mr. David Baldacci via email?

I wish all authors are just like you, you talk to fans more often! No pun intended to the other authors, though. Heehee.

Thanks!
Admin Reply:
Ah, okay, I see what you mean.  No, the characters are not named after those people in the photos.  The people in the images are actually portraying the characters in the book.  As for Linda Sue and David — your best bet is to find their websites via Google and see if they have a method of contact.  Good luck!
Reneilda wrote on March 11, 2012 at 4:00 AM
"While I'm gone, Roland Smith, Linda Sue Park, and David Baldacci are all busy on Books 4, 5, and 6. And so are a lot of you, I've noticed! I've been thrilled to see all your creative, original stories based on 39 Clues characters. They're great! In fact, *I would love to jump in and suggest some new story lines.*"

- I saw this on the messageboard. (I just placed the asterisks there haha). Could you suggest my name, Reneilda de Leon, to be included in one of their books? I'm a Filipino, and I think the characters MIGHT be going to the MANILA, Philippines (SPOILER ALERT:I saw that on McIntyre's list. And I was saddened when I read that he's been killed. Sorry for spoiling it!) Please oh, please oh, please? 😀
Thanks again, Sir Lerangis! 😀 😀 😀
Admin Reply:
Hi, Reneida!  Alas, I’m not in contact with Linda Sue much these days, and I don’t know David B., and Roland has finished his book, so you would have to contact them directly to make this request...
Reneilda wrote on March 11, 2012 at 2:26 AM
Hello, again, Sir Lerangis!
Are the names of the characters of the books are the same as the characters in the cards?
Also, I found it difficult to find the characters' stock photos on the 'net, for I will be printing a copy of each of the RapidFire series (Don't worry, I already have the permission from Scholastic)
Thanks, and more power!
P.S. Have you sent the autographed card already? 😀
Admin Reply:
Hi, Reneilda!  I’m not sure I understand which characters you are referring to.  And yes, I sent the card about a week ago.  You should be receiving it soon!
Jennifer wrote on March 10, 2012 at 11:35 PM
Hey Mr.Lerangis, I loved Book 3! It was awesome although I was hoping for more Amy+Ian but found more of Amy+Jake. I can't wait for the next book and I can't believe the cliffhanger that you left it at. I have a question though: Are the Cahill Files a book or is it an e-book like Rapid Fire? And I also wanted to know if Arthur is actually going to physically talk to Dan! Thanks and keep up the great work in writing!
Admin Reply:
Hello, Jennifer!  Thanks for the kind words.  Glad you were surprised.  If you weren’t, we writers wouldn’t be doing our jobs!  As far as I know, Operation Trinity is a hardcover book but the other Cahill Files books will be eBooks.
Chris wrote on March 10, 2012 at 10:42 PM
Hi again! I read your book and it was great! Can't believe its another 6 months before the next 3 books and the card pack. Well, I was sort of right, the cover for book 4 was purple-ish, but i'm doubting the authenticity of "After pulling some spectacular heists Amy and Dan have become Interpol's most wanted criminals. So when Vesper One orders them to steal the world's largest diamond they know they're facing life in prison... or worse. But with the Cahill hostages still in peril Amy and Dan have no choice but to launch a secret mission that leads them to an ancient city full of dangerous secrets. With a Vesper mole sabotaging the Madrigals from inside Amy and Dan have to fulfill their enemy's request before it's too late. Vesper One has developed a taste for killing Cahills and Amy and Dan aren't going to wait to see who's next."I haven't read that anywhere else. Is this a true description or a hoax??
Admin Reply:
Hello, Chris!  Well, this is the text posted on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and I don’t believe either place has been infiltrated by Vesper spies, so yup, I’d run with it!
Mayelle wrote on March 10, 2012 at 2:07 PM
Hi Peter! I just wanted to tell you that I just finished reading The Dead of Night and so far, it's my favorite of the series. I also notice that Amy's lovelife takes some serious twists whenever you write the book. You'll probably disregard this question, but from the looks of things, will Amy end up with Ian, Evan, or Jake?

Props to a great book! I can't believe I'll have to wait until September for the next one!
Admin Reply:
Thank you so much, Mayelle!  I am delighted you enjoyed the book so much!
Even if I did tell you, you probably wouldn't care... wrote on March 9, 2012 at 10:29 PM
Finished the Dead of Night, and it was amazing!!!!

But why only hints of Amy/Ian? HINTS?!!

And the Jake and amy? I actually like that... its the new couple i support... So now it's sort of like a love square-ish?

But... isn't Jake in College? And how old is Amy/?

Peace Out!
Admin Reply:
Thanks for your nice review. I’m so glad you liked the book.  Funny comment! I guess it is a square.  I hadn’t thought of that.  Amy is sixteen in this book.

Hi again sir Peter..

i just noticed that on the first series of the 39 clues..The Clue Hunt..you wrote The Sword Thief (Book 3) and The Viper's Nest (Book 7), then co-authored The Vespers Rising (Book 11)..

on the second series..Cahills vs Vespers..you ALSO wrote BOOK 3..the Dead of Night..

is it just coincidence or is number 3 your fave number??
(just like Dan said..39 is the sum of the first three powers of 3..thats 3, 9 and 27)

good luck and God bless
xD
Admin Reply:
Hello, Argie!  No, it’s coincidence but I like Dan’s explanation so maybe I’ll stick with that!

Hey!

Sadly I still don't have the book yet. (I think I over heard my mum saying that she will 'surprise' me with it next week. I'm so sneaky!) I have 3 questions you may be able to answer.
1. What does '(sp?)' Mean? I see it on the message board all the time but i don't know what it means.
2. Is it rue that Jake likes Amy??? (I thought it was Amian!!!)
3. Where did the name 'Cahill' come from?
Thanks,
Monica out.
Admin Reply:
Hello, Monica!  1.  (sp) is what someone writes if he or she is not sure of a word’s spelling.  Somtimes it’s written as (sp?).  2. That will be part of your surprise next week!  3.  Good question!  It was there when I started writing the series, and I never thought to ask!
