Hi, Seth! It’s funny, I don’t ever remember NOT wanting to be a writer. I think I was a born storyteller. I was also the oldest kid in my family, so I had to babysit and tutor all my siblings and cousins. I got a lot of practice entertaining them by telling my own stories. Then, when I was older, I read a story by Jack London called “To Build a Fire,” which took place in the Far North. The characters were trying to stay alive in a blizzard. I was reading in the dead of August, and despite the heat this book made me shiver with cold! It was so powerful — the idea that Jack London could have made me feel something so deeply, just with his words! On that day I started thinking about how cool it would be to write for a living, and try to do that same sort of thing for other people.
No, I don’t have any pets, although we did have a guinea pig named Julia Caesar, but she is sadly no longer with us.

I was thinking about Shatterproof, and I just realized: why are the hostages in ******* if Fiske was the first to arrive?
I see 3 possible solutions:
1#: The Vespers kept them in a seperate room and then purposely put them Fiske in first,
2#: They bribed Fiske to say they were in the US or Mexico.
3#: They bribed Martin Holds to say thhey're in Germany.
I'm betting with 1. Also, why did Nellie arrive after everyone but Phoenix? And how did she know they had been kidnapped by the vespers in The Dead of Night?

Hi, Truman! I confess my head is spinning with these questions. Since I didn’t actually write this book, and I can’t even remember these plot points too well, I’d recommend you direct these questions to the book’s author, Roland Smith, who would be able to pop off a good answer.

Hey Peter! It's Becca again! I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving! They should have made a chocolate turkey for you!
Anyway, I've been wondering... What all do you know about UNSTOPPABLE, the 3rd 39 Clues series? Jude Watson hasn't given us a lot of info about it but I would like to know what you've heard about it. I know you probably can't give us any inside info or anything like that but hey, it was worth a shot!
And I also wanted to say thanks, because you always seem to get back to your fans, even if its a twelve-year-old from Missouri bored on a Friday night ;). I know fans make the stories successful but some authors don't seem to get that, so thanks!

Well, okay, I do know the basic plot, but I’m sworn to secrecy under pain of chocolate deprivation. It will be fun to read these books from the (semi-)“outside.” Jude and Gordon are incredibly excited. I will miss working on the 39 CLUES!

I checked out the Seven Wonders site and I'm about to go pre-order the book via Amazon. Another thing - yesterday I went to Barnes & Nobles, and I saw this big crate of books being shipped in through cardboard boxes, and there were multiple labels on all of them and I literally spotted the name Trust No One, call number: blah blah blah, release date: 12/4/12, etc. etc. and I almost died 🙂 Life's interesting.

Dear Peter...

I now feel like exploding for not noticing it earlier. The moument on the cover of Day of Doom is the Capitol Building - the one in Washington, D.C. Every flourecent detail matches it. The angle of the picture on DoD was taken from the right or left second front edge. The top munument matches it.

Hey -
Does Casper Wyoming know who Vesper 1 is? I've been wondering, because he and Cheyenne are always talking about 'him', and supposedly, no one outside of the Council of Six know about him - except Cheyenne is in the Council, not Casper.
One last thing - do you ever feel sorry for Evan? I mean, everyone on the MB says he's a Vesper, but really he doesn't seem to be one - and Amy pretty much dumped him.

Oh, and I was looking at the Trust No One cards online when I saw Isabel Kabra. Darn - if a person is on the suspects, and then appears on a later card in the same book, that means he or she is not a Vesper.
I haven't been able to find any of your books in any library.Is this because they're out of print? I trhink I will try to get Seven Wonders, though.

The 39 Clues website finally released the mini-site for Trust No One - wow. I always thought Beatrice might a Vesper, and know she's a suspect for V2. Personally, I think Dave Speminer is V1 - in A King's Ransom, it said someone infiltrated a family of two kids in Massachusetts, and I don't think it was Amy and Dan's family. Do you think Hope is alive?
By the way, a while ago on the Message Board, Ian posted something called Dan's girlfriend - do you think he was just playing a prank?
Oh, and I've been meaning to ask this for a while: you probably haven't heard of this, but Walt Disney traveled to South America once. Do you think he was looking for the Tomas clues from Machu Picchu and Simon Bolivar?
oh, and congratulations on being a chocolate fan! It probably circles around my 5th or 6th favorite foods on the planet.

Hi Mr. Lerangis i would like to tell you that i am a big fan even if i am half way around the world from where you might secretly live (don't ask where you won't find out)
I would just like to bring to you how much your stories intruge me and also because your books are one of the reasons i read. Thank you very much for all the hours of enjoyment you have given kids like me.

PS:I am still active with the cahills though nobody knows it.(in fact i have gotten acess to top secret information in our local post office about secuirity features oon stamps known only to high ranking postal officals)

I wanted to ask you something...
You said that you already read Trust No One. Well, I was doing some research one day and this popped up:

Scroll down to the very last page (not counting the Scholastic copyright stuff). I don't remember that bit in Shatterproof! I may be wrong, of course, but the /only/ time the Voynich was mentioned was in V-1's text at the back of the book, and in the book code.
So if Amy and Dan are looking for the Voynich manuscript in Trust No One...did Google mess up and is that bit actually from Trust No One? :O I just skimmed through Shatterproof and I don't see that page there!
This wouldn't count as /spoilers/ would it? That one page doesn't offer me any real info...it's just a yes or no Q 😉

Image research...hmm...I'll try that. Ok, so it seems to be on top of something...Maybe the White House? No. If I was David Baldacci and I was thinking of the best place to end a thrilling historic series where would it take place? Western Asia has a lot of civilization and history to it. I've seen pictures of the Acropolis that look like it. Ok, so all books have been tied to Zodiac symbols and the stars, so that still supports the idea of western Asia. It looks like the Taj Majal too, a bit. It looks like a mausoleum...especially like the Mausoleum of Sheikh Muslihiddin. Or even more like Grants Tomb in New York City. Since at the beginning of Day of Doom David Baldacci showed no signal of Dan and amy moving out of New York! Ah, no, it can't be. The one on Day of Doom has almost five different sized floors to it and the one in NY doesn't. Maybe it was one of those Gothic style architecture, the one with high ceilings. Anyways, thanks for your help. I'll keep looking.

Anyways, I'm still wondering when TNO excerpts, etc. will be available because the book comes out in just under four weeks. I think it might be because Shatterproof was practically spelled out two months before publication. And another quick question- on the cover of Day of Doom it shows a monument. Do you have any idea what that is, or is the spoiler bell ringing? Thanks again!

Do you ever get stuck on how to begin a story? I have this great idea, but the first few chapters just aren't working out. The middle seems great, but the start I just can't get past.

Hi, Truman. Oh, yes, this happens to me all the time. And I don’t even get to the middle before I work out the beginning. Sometimes I’ll spend days on the first few pages, until I get the voice just right. Ironically, after I finish a book sometimes I go back to the beginning and rewrite it anyway!
