I just saw a review of The Colossus Rises. I thought it was supposed to come out in February. Do you think he got an Advance Readers Copy?
By the way, which of your books would you recommend to 5th or 6th graders?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Truman!  Yes, any reviewer of THE COLOSSUS RISES must have been sent an ARC.  I would recommend THE SEVEN WONDERS series to that age group, or the 39 CLUES or any of the books in the Middle Grade section of my About the Books menu link above.  Thanks for asking.

Sorry for making another entry so quick, but I just had an AMAZING idea for a book/series that I'm 99% sure is original. Or at least the way it's formatted. I have to start an outline right away before I forget!

GREAT!  Get to work!  (And happy holidays.)

Hello again Peter! Just saw the trailer for Seven Wonders, and I just have to know: where do you get that awesome music?? Maybe the most irrevelent thing about the video, but still, I'm wondering. Won't be able to get The Select, so I'm just waiting on The Colossus Rises. Anyways, good luck writing the books! If you haven't already written them already...
Admin Reply:
Hi, Kade!  I don’t know where they got that music, but I love it.  I’m puzzled why you can’t get THE SELECT, though.  It’s available as an eBook, but also as a pdf (readable on any computer) through that link.  Glad you liked the trailer, and thanks for your wishes.

Hi, Peter! I have two quick questions about the books:

1) In Vespers Rising, Dan says that Amy has been "working on Evan since before the Clue Hunt." How is this possible, because Dan and Amy lived in Boston before the Clue Hunt, and THEN moved to Attleboro at the end?

2) Is it just a coincidence that Phoenix Wizard's mother reported in from the "Southwestern USA" in The Medusa Plot? Southwestern USA=Phoenix, Arizona.

Thank you so much!

-Montego

Hi, Montego!  Good eye, great questions.  1) I think Amy would run into Evan from time to time when she was in Attleboro visiting Grace.  2) Ha!  Maybe you’re right!

Hi Mr. Lerangis!! Did you miss me?? I've been busy all November long, writing that book I told you about. Guess what? It's going to get published! I feel like running around screaming again. Secrets of the Wood Elves should be published in June or July. If you get to read it, you might find a little surprise in one of the first few pages.
I guess that you will know my real name then. I have another book series that I am going crazy about, other than the Bryan Davis books. Ever heard of the Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer? You should read them if you haven't. I looooove them. I need to go now. Bye! ~TempestEagle5

Congrats!  So great to read this.  I look forward to the surprise!

Hi Peter It is Nicolas again.
My question is, I know that you are not a author for the Unstoppable series, e hunt and but since The Clue Hunt series and Cahills Vs Vespers series had a practice mission, will Unstoppable have a practice mission?
From Nicolas

Hi, Nicolas.  This is a good question!  It's a little early in the planning stages, and Scholastic has not yet decided on this.

I read Trust No One a few days back. Wow - it all circles back to 212 BC. I was pretty upset about what happened in Chapter 10. I also thought that it spent too much time with Amy, Dan, Jake and Atticus, and not nearly enough with Phoenix or Attleboro. Do Ulugh Beg, ferdinand Magellan and all those other people have anything to do with anything? And why do the Vespers want to destroy the Earth - I mean, then they wouldn't have a place to live, or at least a hospitable one.

Hi, Truman!  So much drama, and so many questions left for David Baldacci in Book 6.  He will have his hands full!
Truman wrote on December 4, 2012 at 1:18 PM
One of the Cards says 'Death in Syracuse'. Some people think it has to do with Gordon Oh, but I think it has to do with Archimedes. He definently has something to do with this. which theory is right - or is it totally different?
Who's going to be V5 now that Luna's, well ****?
If you weren't an author, who would you think all the members of the Vesper Council of Six are?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Truman!  Afraid I am obligated to invoke the No Spoilers rule, which sits ever patiently atop this page between red diamonds.  Sorry.  As for speculating about what I would (or might) think if I weren’t who I am and could somehow un-know what I already know — whew, just thinking about that makes me want to take a nap!

Mr. Lerangis,

Thank you so much for answering my son Seth's question's. This project was his most exciting yet because he was able the communicate with the very author he was writing about. He thought that was so cool!

Sincerely,
Lisa W.

Good research!

I can't believe Trust No One is releasing tomorrow! It seems like Amy and Dan figure everything out.
By the way, I noticed 2 things: 1, the emperor of Rome at the time of Pompeii was named VESPasian, and 2: Jan van Eyck's brother was named Hubert, and there's a Cahill File with a Vesper named Madamsoille Hubert. Are those completely Red Herrings, or...?

Wow, Truman, you’re way ahead of me.  I have no idea!

Hi. You just came to my school the other day and I just wanted to say that I really liked your presentation: Especially what your mom put in. Also, thank you for autographing my book, and I can't wait to see the next video of your travels. I also wanted to ask, what inspired you to be an author?

Yours truly,
Danielle

Hi, Danielle!  You’re quite welcome, it was a great pleasure visiting you guys, and thank YOU for the nice comment.  I don’t ever remember NOT wanting to be an author.  I was a born storyteller, I think.  I was the oldest kid in my family, so I had to babysit and tutor all my siblings and cousins.  I entertained them by telling stories and doing funny imitations.  In general, I  liked writing a lot, but it was a story by Jack London called “To Build a Fire” that inspired me to try being an author for a living.  The tale took place in the Far North, with a man and a dog trying to stay alive in a blizzard.  Even though I was reading it on a hot day in August, this book made me shiver with cold!  The idea that Jack London could have made me feel something so deeply, just with his words, was powerful to me!  I started thinking about how cool it would be to do that same sort of thing for other people.

Hey Peter! Its Skye again!

No way you were in musical theater?! THATS TOTALLY AWESOME! Do you think thats where you get all your enthusiasm from for writing books? And what was you favorite part you've ever played? Can you also give me a short description of that character and what play he is in? Thanks Peter! Your the best!
Admin Reply:
Hello, Skye!  Yup, I think acting and writing come from the same place, a great big desire to tell stories.  I guess my favorite part was Tony in WEST SIDE STORY.  He’s a scrappy Polish kid (it was a long time ago), who falls for a Puerto Rican girl and is drawn into a gang war.  Because he’s the lead guy, and the music was written by the legendary Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, the tunes are so amazing to sing.  And I got to be in some fight scenes and get killed in the end.  There’s nothing like your fellow actors carrying you offstage while you stay limp, listening to people cry in the audience.  (Something I promise I will never try doing at a school visit.)  But I also loved being in the Broadway tour of THEY’RE PLAYING OUR SONG.  Even though my part was small, I got to tour the country with some great people in a small cast.  And I got to play a toy piano onstage while wearing pajamas.

Hi Peter It is Nicolas again.
My question is are the 39 clues characters licenced characters?
Should I say is the 39 clues trademarked?
I asked this question because Scholastic is having a contest that kids can write a book and be chosen to be published.
They said that you can't use trademarked books. I was mad because I wanted to write a 39 clues story.
Can you see if they can let me weite a 39 clues book. If so please tell me if they let me have permission to write a 39 clues story. You can email me at [email address deleted] Thanks, Nicolas
Admin Reply:
Hi, Nicolas!  Yes, the 39 CLUES is trademarked.  I’m sure you can write a fanfic on the 39 CLUES.  There is a big community of people who enjoy doing that.  As for writing an actual, published 39 CLUES book, all four of the books in the new UNSTOPPABLE series have already been assigned.  But don’t let that stop you from coming up with a great idea of your own.  (Don’t forget, the 39 CLUES started as a wild little idea in someone’s mind.)  Who knows, someday you may come up a book or a series just as popular!

Hi! My name is Nicole. You were at my school yesterday. I really enjoyed the presentation and thought it was very funny 🙂 Anyways, I had a question. When you were talking about the Russian president, I wanted to know if you ever saw him again? And how long were you in musical theatre? I just wanted to know because I actually have done musical theatre, and I like to write stories. Not the "short" kind either. So, I just wanted to add, I love your books! Especially the 39 clues book 3.

-Thanks! Nicole

Hi, Nicole!  Thanks for the kind words about my presentation and my books.  I had such a fun time visiting your school!  No, I never saw the Russian president after that trip, but I will never forget the experience of meeting him.  I was in the musical theater for about eight years, including a Broadway musical and a lot of regional theater and summer theater.  If you click on the “About Peter” section above, you can read lots more info about that (and see some photos), especially the section titled “Life Upon the Wicked Stage.”  You have all my best wishes for a glorious career in writing, acting, or whatever else you decide to do!

Peter how did you get you books published in the very beginning. I want to become a published author, but i don't know how. Can you tell me your story? Also, i have an idea for your idea for your a new book series that you could write: [Idea withheld at the request of Brooks]... DUN DUN DAAAAH!!!!! Tell me how it sounds, and please give me credit if you actually write about it. You friend,
Brooks
P.S. PLEASE don't post the story idea because people could copy it!

Hi, Brooks!  I have some information about how I got started in the bio section of my site.  If you click on “About Peter” above, you’ll be able to read quite a lot of info about my early career.  As for your story, it sounds GREAT!  My plate is pretty full, though — I’ve already written Book 1 in my new series and I have six more to go, as well as seven mini-eBooks and a whole other series, too, which means I’ll be busy till 2016 or so.  So I urge YOU to write this!  What do you think?  I’ll bet you could do a great job.

Hi Mr. Leragis
You came to my school today and I didn\'t get to ask my question, hear I go. Was the president of Russia really instead in the book? By the way very funny presentation .

Thanks, Laura!  That was a lot of fun today.  You have a great school, and I felt very warmly welcomed!  And yes, that story about the president was totally, 100% true!

Hi Peter its Nicole from Davis Elementery school im in 5th grade. How did you get the idea of most of your books? Whats your second favorite book? What is the book u think u could have done better on?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Nicole!  I had a great time at your school today.  As for ideas, I get them in so many different places — from things that happen in life, conversations I hear, books and articles I read, even movies and plays I see.  I’ve written more than 160 books, and each one is packed with ideas from so many different places.  My second favorite book changes from day to day, and I wouldn’t want to name that book for fear of making it feel bad compared to the first favorite.  And I always think I can do better on all my books.  That’s one thing about being a writer: you’re never satisfied, and that just makes you get better and better.
