hi peter! Just wondering did you help design the 39 clues hunt website?
thanks
sophie

Hi, Sophie!  No, if they had relied on me to design the 39 Clues site, people would run screaming from it.  Such is my visual sense.  I am so glad there are talented people who can do these things!

Hi again!

Well, I didn't think so to, but apparently one of the teachers at my school was the conductor or something like that. So, we got discounted tickets 😛

One final question:

-What is it like to write for a living?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Jane!  It’s pretty awesome.  I have to admit, I still have a hard time believing I can go to an office, spill out crazy ideas, shape them into a story, and be rewarded with a book that allows me to tour the country and meet readers.

Hey again Peter!

I've watched Sweeney Todd before (long story short: it was a mandatory field trip (pretty much the only non-boring one that I've been to) and it's pretty dark and somber. Oh yeah, and a few questions ^_^ (if you don't mind) ...

Could you picture yourself as Sweeney Todd, and would you ever want to play him?

Have you seen Les Mis (and no, I don't just mean the movie)?

What do you think the 39 clues would be like as a musical?

~Jane, aged 13
Admin Reply:
Hi, Jane!  Funny, back when it opened, I never imagined Sweeney Todd would ever be the kind of show that schools would go to on field trips!  Yes, I have thought of playing Sweeney, but that role requires a robust baritone voice, and mine is more of a lyric tenor.  Ah well, maybe with proper miking …

Dear Peter,

Is it okay if I create a game based on the Seven Wonders? I thought it would be interesting if there was a game based on your book. I have a program to let me do that. If you say yes, (I don't want to really make it without your permission.) can I make it?
Admin Reply:
Yes, Connor, you certainly may, and thank you for asking!

Hi Peter!!!
You came my school a while ago and signed books. I really wanted signed book! I have so many questions for you!
1. Do you have any pets?
2. Do you think that the Barnes and Noble still has signed copies of your book?
I think you an awesome writer, and you are very, very funny!!!
-Olivia : )
Admin Reply:
Hi, Olivia!  Thanks so much for the nice words, I really appreciate it!  I have not had a pet since our guinea pig, Julia Caesar, passed away.  I believe you’re writing from Austin, yes?  If so, I don’t believe I signed any books at a Barnes & Noble because my school visits were sponsored by Book People.  They may have some signed books, so you may want to call them at 512-472-5050.  Hope this helps.
Connor wrote on March 1, 2013 at 9:38 PM
We finally finished the book! It was great! If I gave it a score it would be a 100,000/10!! My most favorite book ever! I can't wait till LOST IN BABYLON comes out!
Your BIGGEST fan,
Connor

Hi peter! You just visited my school yesterday and I was so happy you came! I was just wondering what day you would be leaving because I really want a signed copy from your book, The Seven Wonders! You are my inspiration to become an author! I also think it is awesome that you got to meet the First Lady Bush!!!!! Also, that you got to meet the president of Russia! Well type me back please, and let me know when you are coming to visit us and I would love to come see you! Thanks,
Tommie

Hi, Tommie!  Thanks for all your kind words!  I am writing this on the way to the airport, so unfortunately I’m moving on from Houston, where I’ve had such a great time.  But not to worry, if you go to the Barnes & Noble at the Woodlands Mall or the Blue Willow Bookshop, I autographed all my books there, so you can get a signed copy even after I’m gone!

Hi Peter,
Thank you so much for coming to Pleasent Hill Elementary School. I really enjoyed your presentation. My daughter, Ashlyn (she previously wrote to you here) was so excited to get your book. She loves to read and this is right up her alley. As the PTA president of their school I was so excited to see the love of reading come out in all of the students that were there. Hope to read more of your books really soon..

Hello, Kathryn!  Thank you so much.  Visiting schools is one of the great pleasures of being a writer.  I never had the kind of encouragement and personal contact with an author that I would have liked as a kid, so it’s become kind of a mission to pass it forward to the next generation.  I feel lucky to be able to do so!  So your note is much appreciated, and all best to the great kids at Pleasant Hill (and the parents who work so hard on their behalf).

Dear Mr. Lerangis,

I am wondering if my name should be pseudonymous. I like the name. But Mr. Lerangis, have you read any books by Cornelia Funke? She's a good author. Maybe her books will help you write.

P.s. You should change the spam thing it's really hard to read.
Admin Reply:
Hi, Moemi!  Using a pseudonymous name is totally up to you.  But if you like your name, why not use it?  You know, I have Cornelia Funke’s books on my “to read” shelf but have not yet read them.  I’ve heard she’s wonderful.  So thanks for the recommendation.  Sorry about the RECAPTCHA words, but I have to do that.  You would be amazed at how much spam gets sent to the guestbook, literally hundreds a day!  If I had to spend time dealing with spammers, I would not have that time to answer questions from great readers like you.  Apologies!

Hi again, Cassie!

Yes, I have had a dog (a Lhasa Apso) named Kuli, two hamsters named Cutie and Albie, and a guinea pig named Julia Caesar.
My favorite animal is the Tyrannosurus Rex, but I’ve never met one.
My favorite song is “Happy Birthday,” because when I hear it, it means I may soon be getting chocolate cake.
My favorite movie is “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

What is your favorite book to read in your everyday life? What is the next book in the seven wonders series about.
Admin Reply:
Hello, Kaushal!  Wow, it’s hard to pick a favorite book, because I read so many of them!  But I can tell you that the second book is called LOST IN BABYLON (and if you know your Seven Wonders, you may be able to tell which of the Wonders that will involve …!)

Hello, Grace!  Thanks for your kind words.  Here you go:
1.  My favorite book is definitely THE COLOSSUS RISES.
2.  If I weren’t a writer, I’d like to be an actor.  That’s what I did before I began writing, and I miss it.
So you’re a neon-green horse-reading fan of the Hanging Gardens!  Very cool.  I think my favorite Wonder may well be the Hanging Gardens, too.
Andy wrote on February 27, 2013 at 11:43 PM
Hi Peter,
I just read your book Seven Wonders Book 1: The Colossus Rises and I really enjoyed it. When will the next book in the series come out? And how are you so good at public speaking?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Andy!  I’m very happy you liked THE COLOSSUS RISES.  The next book, LOST IN BABYLON, comes out in October.  And I’ve  just always enjoyed public speaking.  It helps that I had a career in the theater before I became a writer.

Hey Peter! You came to my school yesterday,Oak Ridge Elementary. It was really funny when you showed us the picture of when you were a baby.Well my question is how did you become a writer? And how was your trip to Russia?Oh and did you have a safe trip back to NYC?
Admin Reply:
Hello, Allyssa!  Thanks for your nice words!  It was amazingly fun to visit Oak Ridge; you guys were go great!  I became a writer back when I was an actor.  In between acting jobs I starting editing books, and then writing them.  Actually, you can read the whole story in the bio section on this page!  The trip to Russia was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done.  It happened way back in 2003 and I still think about it.  Thanks for asking about my trip back to New York, but I’m still in Houston!  Tomorrow I fly to Denver, and my tour continues to Boulder, San Francisco, and Seattle.  The whole schedule is here.

Hi Peter! So, I've got one big question to ask you *drumroll*

What's your favourite play/musical?

To be honest, I would have asked about how you deal with the annoying pain that is writer's block. But because that's probably your most frequently asked question, I decided to ask something different ... So, yeah.

Well, that and the fact that I'm intrigued by your theatrical career 😛

Hi, Jane!  My favorite musical, believe it or not, is Sweeney Todd.  I saw it when it first opened in 1979.  Everything about the show — the drama, the beauty of the music, the innovative plot, the lyrics, the performances — blew me away.  I think I will never in my life see a performance like Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett. When I have writer's block, I listen to Sweeney Todd.  It’s so dark and grim, but it’s a work of genius.
