I am a fifth grader from p.s. 152Q and it was really scary when you were telling us your idea that you saw your lost father there was a chill running down my back
Admin Reply:
Thanks so much, Zarmeen! I had a great day at 152Q and was happy to meet you all. Yes, that was a scary story, caused by that very scary 91st Street subway station in Manhattan!

Hello, Madeline! I hope you received your books in time. Unfortunately, the SPY X books are out of print and very hard to find. I am working on fixing that. Please let me know if you receive them -- and enjoy the rest of the story!

Dear Mr. Peter Lerangis,
Hello ! I'm Jamie, 12 years old and I'm from the Philippines. I would just like to say that you have written such great books, especially Spy X and the 39 Clues books. I would also like to thank you for replying to me on twitter, I was really happy when I found out you replied back. I have been a writer for the school paper and I look up to you and your books.

More Power and God Bless!
P.S: Thanks for taking the time to read this! ๐Ÿ™‚

I am a 5th grade teacher in Manchester, Ct. I have been reading your Spy X series aloud to my students for years! Every group has wanted to know when you are going to finish the story. The kids LOVE the books!!!! This year our school's literacy facilitator informed me that she can't get anymore books because they are out of print. My students and I would love to know your perspective regarding the Spy X story. Did you feel it was finished? Did you run out of ideas? We would really enjoy hearing the inside scoop. Thanks!
Admin Reply:
Hello, Ms. Woods! Thanks so much for writing. Boy, I have been receiving a lot of mail about SPY X! Alas, the SPY X series remains at four books. That was the original idea -- just four -- but the series was doing well, and I had always wanted to move the story onward, as did my editor. So we began talking about extending to six books, and we got tentative approval to start. I had already written the planned ending to the fourth book, and so I added the cryptic hint for the possibility to continue. I was about to outline Book 5, when plans for Books 5 & 6 fell through with the publisher, for reasons beyond our control. As I recall, it had to do with the economy (alas, publishing can be unpredictable!). In the meantime, the fourth book was already going to press. So there it is, still hanging! Finished, but not finished. Do your students have any ideas how the adventure would continue? Maybe it would be a good writing exercise! Anyhow, to your question about the out-of-print books -- yes, that's a constant frustration, but we're working on either re-printing or even re-publishing them. I hope to have some news this summer.

Dear Peter, I have read your thriller novels Drivers Dead and The Yearbook. They were both great. I am a huge thriller lover and am wondering if you would ever consider writeing more books along those lines. Thank You Jon
Admin Reply:
Hello, Jon! Thanks for writing again -- wow, I'm really glad you liked my two thrillers! I still do keep my hand in that sort of writing, less so than I used to. My novel WTF is a thriller, too, although with no supernatural elements, and much edgier than YEARBOOK or DRIVER'S DEAD. As for supernatural thrillers, I have no immediate plans -- but I won't count it out because I love writing them.

Dear Peter,
Hi, my name is Alaina i have talked to you quite a few times now. I asked you about the letter and your address you've been a lot of help. I have my project due may 17th and a letter back from the author is required. Anyways I was searching the internet for your awards(part of the project) and couldn't seem to find any. If there is anyway that you could email me back some awards of yours that would be great!

Thanks again,
Alaina

Hi Peter, I have two ?'s if you don't mind can you answer these two ?'s. 1: which is easier to write in 1st person or 3rd person? 2: how do you know how to write in which? once agian if these are not a problem to answer, please let me know I am in the prossess of writting and I have writer's block please and thank you.
love,Mayraleeh
P.S I love the sword theif and the vipers nest. Thanks again!
Admin Reply:
Hello, Mayraleeh! So glad you like THE SWORD THIEF and THE VIPER'S NEST. Well, these two questions are a bit too complex for this guestbook -- but in general terms, I think first person is easier. It's a bit freeing, because you feel as if you're writing more directly from a point inside yourself. The problem is, you can't include multiple points of view. Once another character leaves the room, he or she is gone. With third person, you can leave with the character, change points of view, and generally do more things with the story. If you have writer's block, it might be a good exercise to use the one that feels easier.

Dear Peter,
I like the 39 Clues series, and my favorite books are The Sword Thief and The Vipers Nest. I would love it if you would come to Gillette Wyoming and do a book signing at the Campbell County Public Library.
Sincerely, Shiloh A.

Thanks, Shiloh! Very happy to know you're enjoying my books. I do visit quite a few schools every year, but I need to be officially invited by a teacher, librarian, or PTA. All the information they need is on my Author Visits link above! Hope I get a chance to visit Gillette someday!

Peter,
I am a 5th grade teacher at Wadley High School in Wadley, Alabama. I have read your Spy X series to many fifth graders and they're all hooked! I am too. Every year I read the books to the class, I get caught up in Andrew and Evie's drama all over again. I am asking, no begging, you to please write a book 5!!!!!! You have left us "hanging" for too long. Will the Wall family reunite again someday? Will the parents ever resolve their differences? We want to know! Please respond. I know you're busy, but there are some students and a teacher at Wadley that would be thrilled!!! Thank you, Angie Jones

Thank you so much for writing. I'm delighted you (and your students) enjoy SPY X so much. I loved writing that series. Books 5 and 6 were in the works, but they were pulled at the last minute for reasons beyond my (and my editor's) control, for reasons most likely related to the economy at the time! So alas, four books it shall remain. Wish I had better news to report!

What High School did you go to?

How old is your wife?

Could you name some of the awards you have received?

What is your favorite animal, color, and book?
Admin Reply:
HI, Ashley! I went to Freeport High School in Freeport, New York (more info on the bio page of my site), my books have won Children's Choice Awards, Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers, New York Library Best Books of the Year, Goodreads Book of the Year nominee. My favorite animal is a blue whale, color blue, and too many favorite books to mention. And my wife's age is a closely guarded secret!

Yes, that was I, or me, or both I and me, in the first row. I'm glad to know more of Pretoria's vampiric geography. Look forward to the details another time. And I commend your children's taste in teething, too. Thank you!

Peter,
I very much enjoyed your contributions to the PEN panel tonight/last night. Some points I have not heard made before. It was an excellent evening, and thank you.

I also had to take a Google look at Boom Street (there are several others in the world) and the part of it I landed on seeme unlike your description, sloping and verdant. I imagine your bomb-in-hat scene took place on another part of Boom Street, but I was delighted to see that Boom Street ends at Dr. Savage Road. Did you know that?
Admin Reply:
And one block south of it is Bloed Street!

Thanks so much for your message, Paul. I'm glad you thought there was some value to the evening. Was that you sitting in the front row?

You'll be happy to know that in the early '90s, owing to chronic salivary and tactile paper damage from two extremely rapt and enthusiastic little boys, we became the happy owners of multiple copies of Wheels on the Bus.

Next time we meet, I will show you where I envisioned Uncle Alistair's little Nightmare on Boom Street.

Peter, i'm doing an author report on you because I recently read book 6 of the 39 Clues series. Could you answer a few questions for me?
Admin Reply:
Sure! But first, you should navigate to my 39 Clues page (click on "About the Books" above, and then "The 39 Clues"), which may give you some answers. Then ask away!

Hello I was just wondering if you planned on ever finishing the Drama Club series? I loved it and hope that you plan to finish it at some point. Thanks So much Jon
Admin Reply:
Hi, Jon -- really glad you liked DRAMA CLUB. I would have loved to continue the series. The characters and stories were very close to my heart. I think we were a bit ahead of our time, publishing a couple of years before the debut of Glee. But alas, the series ended after four books, and I'm glad readers are able to enjoy it.

Hello! I'm a highschool sophomore now, but I've read your Spy X series in the fourth or fifth grade. I remember both my brother and I just adored the series. I just happened to remember them and I'm wondering if you'll ever write a fifth book, or if the series just ends on that note (probably so, since you haven't wrote the series since I was in elementary school). But I happened to find your site and decided to ask. ๐Ÿ™‚
Admin Reply:
How delightful it is to read this! Many thanks for stopping by the site and remembering Spy X. I loved writing that series. We had plans for books 5 and 6, but they were pulled at the last minute for reasons most likely related to the economy at the time! So no, alas, the series ended at Book 4. On the bright side, it paved the way for my participation in the 39 Clues, so a lot of the Spy X flavor made its way into my two books in that series. Appreciate the kind words, Christine. Best wishes.

Hello, Alaina! Your book idea sounds very cool! Good luck. I have a big pile of letters that I have not yet been able to answer, because I've been out of town on a book tour and am also racing to finish my next 39 CLUES book (number 3 in the Cahills Vs. Vespers series). I am so happy you enjoyed THE SWORD THIEF and SIXTH SENSE and DRIVER'S DEAD. I will look for your letter and bring it to the top of the pile as soon as I can. Many thanks for the heads-up, and for all your kind words.
