Oh thanks. True for then I won't eat so much chocolate I get sick. I did do that once, so I see your point. Your welcome, it doesn't cost to be nice.
Yeah I'll make sure it's fine with my totally awesome co-writers, and if they all agree, then I'll put it all together, and wah-lah, we have a book!
Luv,

Hey Peter, I'm back, this is your biggest fan Susie.
I like the word you described Sinead as.
Dedicated. 🙂

I have a story on the message board that's original and I write it with 8 other people, should I turn it into a book? As long as they agree. What do you think?

Thanks for communicating with your fans so much, I can't tell you how awesome it makes us feel.

How would you feel if you couldn't eat Ice cream, and not too much chocolate at one time?
However it is, I feel miserable, wouldn't you?
Do you have any allergies?
I'm mildly lactose intolerant.
🙁

Thanks for listening.

Hi, Susie!  If you want to turn a story into a book, hey, why not?  Go for it.  The only way to become a writer of books is to write books!  Thanks for your comments.  I enjoy communicating with fans!  And yes, life without ice cream and freedom to eat chocolate would be horrible.  Sorry about that lactose intolerance, but maybe it’s a blessing in disguise as it’s bound to keep you from eating too much ice cream and chocolate.

Hey :/

I'm writing a story and I need a country with lots of mystery. Suggestions?

~Just another person in the world
Admin Reply:
Denmark, Mongolia, Armenia, New Zealand.  Just picked them out of a hat.  Every country is filled with mystery.  I would pick a few, do some research, find a mystery that strikes your fancy, and go for it.   And don’t rule out the U.S.A. and Canada.  Very mysterious places.

Hi Peter,

Do you know how the second card pack is the Magellan Heist? I did some research on it and posted it on the message board. Will you please look at it and tell me what you think? Here's the web adress: http://www.the39clues.com/messageboard/show/19932

That looks like some impressive research!  Thanks for sharing.

Do you have any tips for authors that want to make longer books?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Truman! I'm not sure what you mean by “longer.”  In other words, longer than what?  Are you trying to write a story, but it sounds more like a summary?  Maybe you should try to outline your book first, make a plan for what will happen.  Be sure that your plot has a few twists and turns, and that you have plenty of interesting characters and settings.  Once you have those characters, give them strong, different personalities.  Imagine what will happen when they're put together.  This will help you develop your plot. Remember, your characters need to think things through and feel emotions, and you will need to dig in to those things and find ways to show them in your writing.  Humor helps, too.  Once you have your outline, divide the plot into chapters, and try to make each chapter a story of its own.  Hope this helps.

Hi Peter,

When does Shatterproof come out?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Danelle!  September 4.  (A good rule of thumb for all books is to look them up on the website of your favorite bookseller.  There will always be a publication date listed.)

Hey Peter!

Love the "Writing Extravaganza: Author Agents Unleashed" I can't wait to keep going on it after I finish my history assignment! One of the books should be about Gallipoli! Speaking of the books... how many books in the Cahill vs. Vesper series? I heard there is six. And also, in three words can you describe Fiske, Ian and Sinead? 🙂 Thank you so much!

Hello, Monica!  Glad you liked the post.  I had fun writing it.  (For anyone reading this who doesn’t know what Monica is talking about, click [pl-popup content="http://www.the39clues.com/messageboard/show/25467" title="39 Clues Message Board: Writer Extravaganza, Author Agents Unleashed!" width="1000" height="640"]here[/pl-popup]).  There will be six books in the CAHILLS VS. VESPERS series.  The fourth will be written by Roland Smith, the fifth by Linda Sue Park, the sixth by David Baldacci.  And the three words are dessicated, dissipated, dedicated.

Dear Mr. Lerangis,
I absolutely LOVE the 39 clues. I am currently ready to read The Dead of Night, but cannot get a hold on it. Some of my friends have it, but won't let me borrow it, and the Library doesn't have it, so I was hoping if you could possibly email it to me. Probably not. I'm eleven, and am probably the 39 clues biggest fan, considering that I am writing my own fan-fiction book about it. They're AMAZING! I even have an account on the 39 clues website. I love the missions, but can't complete some of them. Is it true that the 39 clues will become a movie? Please email me.

Hello, TempestEagle5.  I wish I could send out free books, but alas, if I did so for you, then (to be fair) I would need to do the same for everyone who asks, and I would be swamped.  We authors only get a small number of free books ourselves and then we have to pay for them too, so my apologies!  We don’t know for sure if THE 39 CLUES will or won’t be made into a movie.  That’s up to Dreamworks.  They are the movie studio that has the right to make a movie from the books, and so far the only thing we know is that a script has been written and Shawn Levy has been mentioned as a director.  That’s a long way from actually making a film.  When a casting call is announced, THEN we’ll know to start getting excited!

Hi, Maddie!  You can send a SASE to me c/o Scholastic at the address inside the book and they will forward all mail to me!

Hi Mr.Lerangis,

Did you posts about the Tomas Rebellion on the message board? If you have I think it is very childish and not really important because we have more important things to worry about like saving the hostages.
Admin Reply:
Hello, LilyTomas1!  Tomas Rebellion?  I confess I don’t know what you’re referring to.  My posts are easily recognizable, with my agent card and my name plainly visible.  Not to worry, I’m in full agreement with you!

Hello again, regarding bout the last conversation, I did a lot of research ranging from the hesiods theogony, works and days to the blurry pages of Wikipedia and I have traced out everything regarding the origin of life with its BC dates and ages of the cosmos but hesiod says gigantomachy happened before the rage of typhoeus, the last titan, while Wikipedia says exactly the opposite. What should I believe.....by the way do you know about the highly ancient greek myth about the origin of life....well I do know so you know that maybe I'd mail it to you with something in exchange,,,,maybe like some little spoilers like identity of vesper one,,,not much to ask....ps:what's ur public email id or if ud lke to hand it over personal, u hve my email id...
Admin Reply:
Without reading the sources you’ve mentioned, I can only remind you two things: (1) Wikipedia doesn’t actually “say” anything per se.  As an encyclopedia, it collects information from primary sources, and those sources should be cited in footnotes at the bottom of the page, so I’d recommend reading them, and (2) mythology comes to us via ancient storytellers, many of whom conflict.  So it’s hard to call anything definitive.  As for spoilers, please read my little message at the top of this page.  And if you’d like to contact me personally, feel free to use my Contact page!
Nick Bradman wrote on June 13, 2012 at 7:05 AM
Hello Peter,
I just had a confusion about Greek mythology, thought I'd ask you cuz you are Greek.
Did the gigantomachy or the giant war happen before or after typhon, the last titan tried to destroy Olympus and also that what brought forth the end of humans living in the golden age of kronos and did Prometheus made humans of the silver age or the bronze age????????pls help.....
Admin Reply:
Whew, you got me, Nick!  I may be Greek, but I’m not that ancient.  I never knew Prometheus, but maybe my grandfather sold him some fruit.  Then again, maybe not.  I do know someone named Plato, though.  All joking aside, to answer these questions I would have to do the same thing you would … research.  So maybe we should both get busy!

Hi Mr Lerangis my name is christian and I'm 10 years old I love the 39 clues series because it is exciting and it's always left on a cliffhanger my favorite book you wrote was the dead of night it was really good because you can't just figure out the entire plot after the first page. you could guess but you would be proven wrong again and again. anyway I can't wait till your next book come's out oh and by the way are you writing any other series like the 39 clues or do you have any sugestions for any good books please write back.
Admin Reply:
Hi, Christian!  Thanks so much for your note.  I’m glad THE DEAD OF NIGHT kept you on the edge of your seat.  That puts a smile on my face!  I am busy at work on a brand-new series that will be published in February.  I’m not allowed to talk about yet, but there will be an announcement sometime in August.  Stay tuned to this website for news.  As for other reading, my friend Rick Riordan has published a list of recommended reading that’s almost exactly the same books I would mention.  Very convenient, don’t you think?  So just click [pl-popup content="http://rickriordan.com/my-books/percy-jackson/resources/ricks-reading-recommendations.aspx" title="" width="1000" height="640"]here[/pl-popup] for some great reading material (and thank you, Rick!).

Hey Peter, why did you, Gordon and Jude get invited to write more (not to mention Linda Sue Park) and not the others? Is it because you're more available or just better authors?
Also, I think the plot throughout the whole 39 Clues series changed, from Maze of Bones to Into the Gauntlet. It grew more intense and more based on trust and infighting.
Did you guys know about the whole Master Serum from the beginning? And did you plan to have Cahills vs. Vespers, too?
Admin Reply:
I’m not sure how the choices were made, but I imagine it had to do with availability.  We’re all involved in several projects at the same time.  Yes, we knew about the master plot from the beginning.  And CAHILLS VS. VESPERS was something we hoped to do if the series became popular.  The rest is, well, history!
Congrats! The blanks have been filled in by...you wrote on June 11, 2012 at 4:02 AM
Good point, but I had just finished Son of Inerflux by Gordon Korman soo....

Did you catch the bit about Evil Lord Nodrog and his dark fires? I can't imagine Gordon as evil, even if he's sitting on a throne beside you and Jude Watson.

You're welcome...

2010. You. Were. In. Toronto. In. 2010. And I didn't know. Gulp.

Hrrr! Sometimes...

Hello, Sapphire!  Hrrr, eh?  Are you a Chris D’Lacey fan, too?  And the Evil Lord Nodrog is actually a teews and ynnuf yug.  Yes, in 2010 Gordon and I appeared together in Toronto.  In fact, there is a secret, little-seen video of our entrance to an Indigo/Chapters store there.

Thank you SO MUCH for your wonderful series, "Spy X." I teach English Language Studies to a small group of 6th grade students through the special education department. These are kids with attention span issues, all of whom are at least 2 grades below grade level in reading. We found "Spy X" and it's been incredible! The kids come into class saying, "Can we read? Can we read?" These are kids who don't voluntarily read anything! It's been inspiring this year, to see what your books have brought to these kids. We read aloud, we discuss the chapters, we predict what might be happening next, and we try to solve the puzzles before Evie and Andrew can.

We have 2.5 days of school left for the year. One boy has finished "Proof Positive;" the other 2 groups (4 kids) each have 3 chapters to go, so we'll push through tomorrow morning. Tomorrow and Tuesday, we (the other sped teacher and I) will have a Read-IN day. My kids had the choice of staying in their homerooms to watch a movie and have a last day of school party, but instead they are going to come to my room to listen to "Tunnel Vision." I know these books are out of print now, and the series is over, but I really wish we'd been able to follow Evie/Jen and Andrew/Obi, or whoever they become next, to Manhattan. I will miss these characters, as much as I'll miss my students as they move to 7th grade. Sixth grade ELA has been magical this year, thanks to "Spy X."

Wow.  Your message truly makes my day!  I loved writing those books and am happy beyond words that they are still being read and enjoyed, and that they’ve been such an important part of your year.  Have a great read-in and a wonderful summer.

Hello, again, Sir Lerangis!

I want to be straightforward (hehehehe). . Could I ask you for a signed author agent card for my best friend, Ashley(Just like the one you sent me)? It would be a great birthday gift for her, since she's also an avid fan of The 39 Clues series, and she's an Ekat, just like me. Thank you very much, and I hope you could visit the Philippines some time! 🙂

Sure, Reneilda.  I will send it to the same address.  If you’d like it sent to a different address, please let me know via my Contact page.

Hi, Peter! I would like to ask you something I thought about: Do you think Jules Vernes is a Vesper? It was never said that he was a Cahill, and there is V in his last name!
Admin Reply:
Now THAT'S an interesting idea!  Hmm, could be.  Although I've always thought of Uncle Jules as one of the good guys.

Hi Peter,
What is Spy X?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Ariel. SPY X is a four-book adventure series about a brother and sister who become spies in order to find and rescue their mom, who is a spy in hiding. It's a great series if you like action and lots of secret codes. I have a whole web page devoted to it here.
