Forgot to ask. Are you coming to Colorado any time soon?
Admin Reply:
I just got back from Colorado!  I did some book signings and school visits in the Denver/Boulder area.  You can see where exactly by scrolling down a bit on this page.

But I'm a kid and I wnat to get published ASAP. How do you get published? What's the publisher you use? What's an editor and how do you get one?

Hi, J.J.!  Well, if you really want to, you WILL!  It will take some time, though, if you want to be published by a publishing company.  So first of all, you’ll need patience.  Have you thought of entering a contest?  [pl-popup content="http://www.artandwriting.org/the-awards/" title="Scholastic Writing Awards" width="1000" height="640"]Here’s a good one[/pl-popup].  Gordon Korman was published at a young age by winning a contest.  But pretty much all authors, when they were kids, wrote like crazy and loved doing it, just like you — then continued their education and became published afterward.  It really helps to have those extra years of living and writing under your belt.  Then, what you do is try to get an agent, who will find the right publisher for your book.  Once a publisher accepts your book, you are assigned an editor who will read your book and make comments and suggestions to take make it better!  A good way to meet these people is to join an organization like the [pl-popup content="http://www.scbwi.org/" title="SCBWI" width="1000" height="640"]SCBWI[/pl-popup] (the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and attend their conferences.  Many of the best editors and agents attend these, and they are always looking for new authors.  Also, other authors will be there to inspire you.  There are so many publishers out there; my books have been published by Scholastic, HarperCollins, Simon and Schuster, and many others.  You can also publish yourself.  It all happens faster than you think.  Good luck!

Hey Peter! I'm back!

Haven't posted on here for a while! How are you doing?

Have you finally read DAY OF DOOM yet? And do you know the exact date that UNSTOPPABLE: NOWHERE TO RUN comes out?
Admin Reply:
Hi, Skye!  Doing great!  This Sunday, COLOSSUS hits week #6 on the New York Times bestseller list, so I am flabbergasted in a good way.  Haven’t read DOOM yet, but I can tell you NOWHERE comes out at the beginning of October!  Good to hear from you.

Hi Peter!
It is Nicolas.
Did Hope and Arthur Cahill win the clue hunt?
Maybe Clifford Riley should write a book about that!
Thanks, Nicolas
Admin Reply:
Thanks, Nicolas!  Maybe he should indeed!

Good Afternoon Mr. Lerangis!

I sent an email message to you, but decided to ask this question here as well. Do you send out autographed bookplates? I would love to visit you on your tour but don't see you making any stops here in Hawaii. Please let me know. If you do, I can send you a SASE.

Hi Peter!

It's ella blum commenting from before about Shane's good acting-- acting and convincing us that he is a good actor is what makes him a good actor.

P.S.
So exited to read the series!!

Sincerely,
Ella Blum

Hi Peter it is ella blum from LES.
We heard that you might be making a movie for the Colossel Rises. We just want to inform you that we have a lot of talented actors and actresess in this grade (5) that would love to have an opportunity to work with you. Please let us know.

Thanks,
Ella and Her 5th grade classmates
Admin Reply:
Thank you, Ella!  Unfortunately there have been no movie offers yet.  If there are, the movie producers will hold the auditions.  I’m afraid the book author has nothing to do with the casting.  But certainly you should keep your eyes on the home page of this site.  If a movie is to be made, I will make an announcement.  And if I find out anything about auditions, I’ll post that too, so all you incredible actors and actresses will know!

Hi, Kess and Mackenzie!  I had such a great time visiting your school yesterday.  I write with three publishers these days: HarperCollins, Scholastic, and Simon & Schuster.  One of them, Scholastic, sponsors a great writing contest you may be interested in.  The link is [pl-popup content="http://www.artandwriting.org/the-awards/" title="Scholastic Writing Awards site" width="1000" height="640"]here[/pl-popup].

Hi, Joshua -- wow, six years old and reading at such a level!  I am impressed, and I’m really happy (and honored) to know that you’re enjoying my book!
Sapphire (because I just can't resist bothering you) wrote on March 15, 2013 at 2:13 AM
Oh....it's because the characters wanted to isn't it? (That's what I've heard a lot of writers say.) So...you just write out what the characters want to do. Or have to do. And in this case, Ian had to use Amy to get to the clue. Right??

Oh...yeah. Amian actually started from Maze of Bones! *nods*

I think it's just cruel to give Amy three partners (or three choices of partners (Because I just can't resist talking about this.))

Honestly: the poll on the 39 Clues website (who should Amy end up with?) That was cruel too. Because none of the authors were going to follow it in the first place. (They even included Jonah...and Hamilton.)

I have a feeling I'm just rambling. So...bye 😉

Characters.  They can be so pesky.  Although I’m scratching my head again, because I never said that thing about characters telling me what to do, did I?  Oh, wait, that bit about Ian.  OK, Ian, stop looking over my shoulder, I’m telling her that was a joke.  I have to stop scratching my head.  Look what happens.  Ah, well.  All best to the world of Amian, recognizing unfairness and flying that banner high.

Thanks for doing an interview with us at Mom-Spot.com. We've enjoyed getting to know you and reading your Seven Wonders book. We are working with a fantastic project, Monkey Do Project, to deliver books and backpacks this summer to children in Appalachia. Would you be willing to donate a case or two of your books to these kids, ALL of which do not have books in their homes.
We would greatly appreciate your partnership in this project.
Thank you! We can't wait for your next book.
Admin Reply:
Thanks, Angela!  I look forward to seeing the interview!  Monkey Do sounds amazing.  I have passed on the message to the publisher, who may be able to handle a donation on the order you mention.  We authors only have small numbers of copies of our own books, beyond which we must buy them.
