You’re welcome, Ella!  I really enjoyed visiting your school and seeing Sparta for the first time.  Hope I have the chance to do it again someday.  Thank you for being so welcoming to me!

how long did it take you to make your first book?
Admin Reply by: peterlerangis
Hi, Madelyn!  I think my first novel took about nine months to write.  Some of them have taken longer, like a year and a half, but I have also written books in as quickly as two weeks.  It just depends on the length and the amount of research involved!

what made you start to write book
Admin Reply by: peterlerangis
Hi, Mia! I always wanted to be a writer. Honestly, I don’t even remember not wanting to write.  I think part of the reason had to do with birth order (but only part of it!).  As I mentioned in your school, I was the oldest kid in my family, and I liked to entertain my younger siblings and cousins with stories, imitations, etc., so I was always a storyteller. But I began thinking more seriously about being a professional writer when I was a bit older, maybe 12 or so.  On one hot summer night I was reading a story called “To Build a Fire,” by Jack London — a survival tale set in the Arctic — and it was so vivid that I started shivering with cold in 90 degree heat!  I was amazed that this author could practically change my body chemistry, just with words!  I began thinking I wanted to do THAT to other people someday — make them feel things deeply with the power of writing.

Did you struggle in thing while you were in school?
Admin Reply by: peterlerangis
Hi, Jacob! I think my biggest struggle in school was with behavior, believe it or not.  I liked making my friends laugh, and that disrupted the class and made the teachers mad.  Sometimes I would be sent to the hallway or the principal’s office.  It took me a while to grow out of that, but it’s still painful to remember.

Hello Mr. Lerangis, my name is Sachi Bhanji. I am a feature Editor for the Matador Messenger. I have recently received a copy of your book Max Tilt Fire The Depths to read and write an article about for the Matador Messenger. I just wanted to introduce myself to you so in the future I could ask questions about your book. I can't wait to read it. I PROMISE to not spoil anything in the book. Thank You.

Ah, that’s great, Sachi, and very thoughtful of you to send me a heads-up.  How wonderful you got an early edition of Max!  I look forward to hearing what you thought of it, and also to answering your questions!

Hello, Mr. Lerangis I've read all 4 of
your Spy X books and I loved them. Can you write a fifth book?

Sincerely,
Amitai (age 7 almost 8)
Admin Reply by: peterlerangis
Hello, Amitai!  Thank you so much for writing, and for enjoying the Spy X series.  Sorry to say, the publisher decided not to continue the Spy X series after Book 4.  I wish I had better news for you, but I do recommend my new book, Max Tilt: Fire the Depths, which is coming out October 3.  And also the Seven Wonders series. If you liked Spy X, I think you’ll really enjoy them!

Hello Mr. Lerangis! I am writing to ask how I can obtain an autograph or perhaps a signed book? I am part of a "Dream Team" for foster children in Tampa, FL. I am planning a birthday party for Patrick, who turns 18 on 9/7 before he "ages out" of the foster system as he has not yet been adopted. He LOVES reading, science fiction novels, and especially your Watchers series. Can I mail you a book or a birthday card to sign for him? I can include a stamped return envelope. Here is a link to his adoption video (his younger brother is also in it) so you can see what a special guy he is and why he deserves to have a special and inspiring birthday before he heads out into the world as an "adult." https://youtu.be/XMUuELoiHK4
Thank you so much for already being a great part of his life through your novels!

Hi, Adicia,Yes, I would love to sign a book for Patrick.  What a great kid!  Would you mind sending me a private e-mail message at info@peterlerangis.com and we can make mailing arrangements? Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.

I really loved reading your books and I was wondering have you have ever thought about making a movie on the books? I would love to watch them.
Admin Reply by: peterlerangis
Hi, Jedd!  I think about it all the time!  In fact, I really do have to stop thinking about it, I’m driving myself crazy.  Seriously, I would love to have any of my books made into a movie, and I hope some filmmakers will soon agree to do it!

Dear Mr. Lerangis,
I have been wanting to become a writer for a very long time, but don't really know where to start. Do you have any advice for me?
Also, I wanted to say thank you for writing the Seven Wonders books. I have had a lot of fun reading them.
Admin Reply by: peterlerangis
Hi, Anna.  Many thanks for your kind words about the Seven Wonders series.  I’ve moved on to other projects, but boy do I miss it.  Here’s some advice I usually give people who are serious about writing books:1. You have to want it more than anything else in the world. You have to be the kind of person who doesn’t settle for no.2. Reading voraciously — all the time — is the single best training to become a writer.3. It helps to be intensely curious about how your favorite authors make their work so good. What kind of words do they use? What kind of words do they leave out?4. You need to practice. Like a musical instrument or a sport, writing gets better with constant work. Write some things for yourself, pieces that no one else sees. Also write stories that you show to people you respect — teachers, librarians, parents, siblings, other authors, etc. Listen to their feedback. Learn to recognize useful and useless feedback. Useful feedback is your best friend, even though it may feel painful.5. You must collect ideas. Write them down. A pad or a writer’s notebook is great, but anything will do, even a receipt or a scrap of paper. Collect your ideas from conversations, things you observe in everyday life, dreams, other books and movies, etc. When you have a bunch of them, read them over and decide which is the best. Which one makes you the most excited? Start working on that one. If you like it, chances are your readers will too.6. You need to recognize that the stakes in your story must be super-high. Even in stories about everyday life, there must be some dilemma that seems impossible to solve, something the readers will hang on to until the very end.7. Regarding step 6, think hard about what you want to leave out of your story. That’s the thing that will pull your readers in.8. Live life to the fullest. It’s easier to write compelling stories if you’ve experienced compelling events in your life.9. Don’t worry about getting published right away. Almost no one is published at a super-young age, and that’s OK.10. Did I say practice?11. Practice.

Dear Mr. Lerangis,
Since I started reading your books, I noticed a lot of references to Bible stories, and have been wondering if you are a Christian. Thank you for reading this.

Hello, Anna!  I grew up going to the Greek Orthodox Church but I’m afraid I have lapsed from that branch, as the liturgy was always in a language I did not understand!  As for nowadays, I guess I’m a work in progress!

Dear Peter Lerangis,

Hello! I am from Greece so forgive me if I make some mistakes. I am writing to tell you how much I admire your work. You are my favourite writer and I have loved Seven Wonders Of The World and 39 Clues! The way you write is amazing. Also, I have recommended Seven Wonders Of The World to my friends and they have loved these books too.

When I grow up, I want to be an author too and you are one of my inspirers to follow this profession. Have a very good day,

Your faithful reader

Thank you so much (or should I say ευχαριστώ?).  I’m delighted you enjoyed the Seven Wonders series and also very happy you’ve spread the word to your friends.  My grandparents came to the States from Greece and I have a deep love for the country and the culture.  I hope to read your own books someday, and warmest wishes to you!

Dear Peter Lerangis:

I use to trust my friends all the time. Then they started to lie. I care for them and want them to keep them happy. I played football for the first time last year. I kept thinking of giving up every time we ran the laps. Every time at night I would read on comic.

To just think on what's going on in the comic???I listen to music to let me relax and listen to what the lyrics meaning is. I listen to old rock and modern. Every time I try to fall asleep I think of the world and what is going on in the world.I always tried not to give up, to help my friends.

Then I read the Seven Wonder series.

The start of the first book was slow for me. When I started get toward the end of the book it started to become a page turner. The best cliffhanger in the series was in at the end of the second book. The get their mission done and then he found out his mother was still alive! Another cliffhanger was in the third book it was a sad but good. The destroy the loculus of healing and they're about to die of G7W. Jack didn’t to leave his mom but couldn’t trust her.

In the fourth book was the latest book I have read. I started to trust my friend because jack found his mom not working for Massa. He never gave up on his mom through the book series. Jack never let his friends die. When they were fighting Zeus statue Jack didn't let Cass fall. My favorite scenes is when they are always in trouble and have to fight the protector of the locules.

I have never trusted my friends until I read this book series.I don’t give and care for my friends. What will you write after you finish this amazing book series? How would you end this book series even if it’s so good? Thank you for making this book series that had a big impact on my life.

Yours truly,
Ricky Spinello

Thank you, Ricky.  I’m glad you enjoyed the Seven Wonders series, and I really do hope you also find friends you can trust!  They’re important to have in your life.  I’ve started working on a new series, a trilogy called Max Tilt.  The first book, Fire the Depths, will be released on October 3.  It’s a science-fiction/adventure series based on the book Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. I think it may be the best book I’ve ever written, and I hope you’ll enjoy that one, too!

Hello Mr. Lerangis, my name is Wesley Wallace and it is a pleasure speaking with you today. I wanted to contact you in regards to scheduling a possible phone meeting or phone discussion to discuss the possibility of turning the Seven Wonders Book Series into a motion picture as myself attached to portray the lead character of Jack McKinley. As a young emerging teen actor I have auditioned for Hollywood casting directors and projects. I continue to be managed by Discover Management in California. I would love to further discuss the project over the phone so please feel free to email me if interested. Thank you and have a nice day.

Hi, Wesley!  Thanks for your enthusiasm, I really appreciate it.  As of now the movie rights to the Seven Wonders series are still held by HarperCollins and any interested producer would need to contact them directly. Good luck to you!

Dear Peter,
What is your inspiration to become a great author
Admin Reply by: peterlerangis
Hi, Blake.  It’s because I was really, really bad at being a waiter, so I had to do something else.  Well, that’s just partially true.  I always wanted to be a writer. Honestly, I don’t even remember not wanting to write.  As the oldest kid in my family, I liked to entertain my younger siblings and cousins with stories, imitations, etc., so I was always a storyteller. But I began thinking more seriously about being a professional writer when I was a bit older, maybe 12 or so.  On one hot summer night I was reading a story called “To Build a Fire,” by Jack London — a survival tale set in the Arctic — and it was so vivid that I started shivering with cold, in 90 degree heat!  I was amazed that this author could practically change my body chemistry, just with words.  I began thinking I wanted to do THAT to other people someday — make them feel things deeply with the power of writing.

What inspired you to become a writer for the 39 clues
Admin Reply by: peterlerangis
It was the easiest thing in the world.  After Rick Riordan wrote the first book, the editors at Scholastic went on a search to find authors to write the next ones.  They called Gordon Korman, Jude Watson, and me down to their office and showed us what the series would be about.  They hoped we liked the idea and asked us if we wanted to write a couple of books each.  All I had to do was say yes!

Dear Peter Lerangis,
I have to say," Emosewa Seven Wonder Series!!!" I have never read a greater series! I have one question, why did you stop at number five? Please make another book that continues the last one. I have an idea of what might happen in the next book.
Your faithful reader,

Uoy knaht! Thanks so much for that comment, it made my day! It’s so great to know you wanted the series to continue, and I’m sorry to disappoint (but don’t forget the Seven Wonders Journals, there are four of them!). But at this point, I’m already deep into two other series. Max Tilt is debuting in October, and I think it may be the best thing I’ve written. So I hope that will make up for the end of the Seven Wonders. (Truth to tell, I miss it too!)

Hi Peter!
I think I wrote a message before this one; thanks for replying by the way! My Friend says she just wrote a story and wants to send it to a publisher. Can you reccomend some publishers to send the story to?
Thanks!
Tabitha
P.s. We're from Singapore, so a Singapore based publisher would be good
Admin Reply:
Hi, Tabitha! Great to hear from you, and congrats to your friend. I wish I could help, but honestly I don’t know any Singaporean publishers. My last visit to Singapore was through the Singapore Writers Festival, which was set up, I believe, by the National Arts Council of Singapore. Maybe one of those groups might be able to direct you to the right kind of resources. I know they’re dedicated to promoting emerging local writers, so who knows?

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!! We loved having you, come back soon.

Thank YOU! I had such an amazing time at Roaring Brook. What a bright and engaging group of third- and fourth-graders! And it may come as a shock to you all, but if I were not a writer, I think I’d probably be a stage actor! (Or at least try.)

Hi I have an idea about a new book series that you could write. I'm thinking about it being in the old medieval times about these four kids who have a brother who gets taken by a wizard and he tests them. So three kids are trying to get their brother back but they have to go through games aka tests and if they fail the game they don't get their brother back. And they have never done any of the challenges but they get told the rules of the game by the wizard.

Hey, Sam! It was great to spend some time with you guys today. I had a fantastic time. And I think your idea has some great potential for an exciting story. I haven’t written a wizard story but I may try to keep it in mind. Meanwhile, you may want to think about trying your own hand at it, when you have some time! Have a great spring break!
